I note the council are about to "improve" forest hill road by moving a ped crossing a couple of feet and putting tubs and greenery down the middle of the road. absolutely vital work I am sure. I am also sure demon barber will have a string of reasons why such expenditure is important at a time of hideous spending cuts. wot no cycle parking bay, james?

Why? You do realise CCTV camera don't actually prevent crime?

As long as people understand that that are a tool to help solve crime, providing they aren't wearing an 'advanced technology cloaking device', otherwise known as a 'hoodie'.


But some people really do believe that CCTV prevents crime, which is wrong.

Thats Funny Im sure I have seen rioters stealing on CCTV And those fake Good Samaritans. Maybe I dreamt it.

I personally feel the improvements are welcomed. The top end of Forest Hill Road is a spot were motorists speed up coming down the hill as well as up it. The greenery will make the wide part of the road smaller (hopefully to encourage drivers to take more caution) and I certainly think some big green trees or shrubbery will be quite nice :)

I'm personally not convinced by the need for all of these improvements - although some of them seem sensible.


The frequency of the lights at the junction with Wood Vale are pretty effective at slowing the traffic down and generally it's a junction that works well for all kinds of road users - unlike the uncontrolled junction with Brenchley Gardens, where traffic regularly pulls out/across Forest Hill Road without much thought, in my experience. The planters/trees could actually reduce visibility for the turn off into/out of Brenchley Gardens - so I've suggested this be kept to low planting rather than trees.


I particularly don't understand the need to put in two straight-ahead pedestrian crossings over the same bit of Forest Hill Road either side of the Wood Vale junction (so within about 4 or 5 metres of each other). Worth looking at the diagram for what is proposed.

Rioters mostly were masks to hide their identity because they are aware of cameras.

When a riot takes place, opotunists often join in thinking that taking items scattered around

is not really stealling.


Much of this type of activity is spontaneous.


Someone planning to rob someone is going to be more careful not to be seen.

Hence alleyways and poorly lit areas are common sites for street robbery.

For me the proposals are one third overkill, on third welcome and one third missed opportunity.


The missed bit is the speed control - some shrubs aren't going to be enough. The stretch that sees crazy speeds is from beyond the junction with Wood Vale northbound or beyond the junction with Colyton Road northbound because it has no traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, speed cameras or speed humps.

Over do speed control, greenery and traffic calming measures could further exacerbate the Colyton / Scutari / Marmora morning / afternoon rat run through residential roads. I believe the plans should also include a chicane or some other measure(s) on Scutari to discourage this.

Agreed - I hate them as a cyclist too. Particularly on hills where most cyclists will end up going slower in any case - we want more room so that you don't feel pressurised with a vehicle on the back wheel rather than less. Those raised entrances into streets aren't great either on a bike.

      Was it the promise to act as a "strong voice" for Muslims that sealed the deal? The Green Party hired Abi Wilkinson from the Sultana wing of Your Party just before the Manchester by-election. She's on record as denying sexual violence during the 7 October 2023 attacks on Israel by Hamas, which is not true.       I've not engaged in this debate so far but you can't be more wrong. In the UK our own language is English, there is a small minority who can rightly claim their language is Welsh or Gaelic, and a couple Cornish. British Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Christians, atheists etc will usually speak British, even if not their first language.  The vast majority will be able to understand English.   A small percentage, less than two percent, of people living in the UK have little or no English (census data).  It is right that in certain situations eg schools there is signage and information in other languages, providing public information. It is wrong that a political party do this, particularly one who came across as opportunist on this occasion. There is an interesting conversation about British expats living, for example, on the continent, where I expect huge swathes who can hardly say a word of French, Spanish etc.
