Not exactly current but definitely positive ...

Saw an ordinary but rather forlorn guy standing outside the Co-op in Lordship Lane prior to Christmas, stranded by the fact that his bike had been tethered to the bike rack by someone else's lock - every cyclist's nightmare. His only hope was that the other cyclist would come back soon, but the much flashier steed didn't seem to be yielding an owner any time soon. Since the offending lock only passed through his brake cable, I went home, got some tools, and freed his bike, obsviously checking that the brakes worked once reassembled. I think he lived a few miles off so it would otherwise have been a bit unnecessary back and forth in a season when time is short. Good to feel useful and be in the right place sometimes. Haven't seen him since though ... ooh errr!

Good for you, paulc! I think I did that to someone by mistake a few months ago outside the Ritzy. When I came back 8 hours later at midnight all the other bikes had gone and mine was attached to nothing at all. Had this thread existed then I'd have said how grateful I was to find it still there.

    • I know people won’t have any sympathy but the SEND challenge was brought up when taxing parents who have opted for independent school to meet a child’s SEND needs. Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
    • First mate - I wondered if I was imagining things at 4.45 this morning . Apparently not .
