They did not. They were initially commuted to life in prison, and later released, after it was clear that they had not murdered the people in question, or indeed anyone, and after an incredibly brave testimony from a key missing witness who was so frightened of the police threats that he left the country before the initial trial.........all prisoners had been treated dreadfully throughout, including in prison, one left prison with an untreated fractured skull, another had to spend months in treatment after all of his schizophrenia medicated was deliberately withheld in prison, one had to be treated for various minor bone breaks.......

One of them wrote me a poem afterwards about never giving up hope, he was virtually illiterate but still the sentiment and feeling of what he'd dealt with came through. I wish I could have kept it but it remains on his file in the law firm I worked for at the time......

Anyhoo. Curry sounds nice.

Who is coming? Post here or send a PM so that I can book a table. I suggest meeting at the Forest Hill Tavern next door at about 7.15 and then eat at 8.00.

Meet at the Clock House pub at 7.00 for those that fancy walking up together?

Am not a member of your curry club - but be warned - take your own drink - last time we went Omrith informed us they no longer have an alcohol licence, but you can take your own. Or they suggested drinking alcohol before or after the meal elsewhere!
They must have softened their stance then. Co-owner sold his half share to his business partner, who said no alcohol could be purchased on premises,. We had a conversation about imposing their views on their customers, and they said the restaurants in Brick Lane do not serve alcohol.

    • DKH was two form entry, it is now one form entry to cope with the fact it was far more under subscribed than other schools in the area. They had actually combined year groups into single classes, 3/4 and 5/6.  When a school changes name, it’s usually because of a bad reputation perhaps the results.  The new name is dry with no history unlike its current name. It’s a very sketchy decision. It’s an expensive vanity project for someone.  What  will happen if the name change does not increase applications to the school?
    • @first mate I assume Alice made a mistake, as she removed her reaction.  I was wondering about park wardens. As I said, there was one there last night, who was incredibly helpful and proactive. As well as bringing me to the police, he caught up with a young guy on a bike who'd earlier been the victim of an attempted theft by these kids and linked him up with the police too. But I do wonder, as I've only very occasionally seen him riding around, how many they have and what hours they patrol. I've no doubt they'd be a strong deterrent if they had a better presence. They were nowhere to be seen the first time around.  Update: I've just found this: https://services.southwark.gov.uk/community-safety/community-wardens The guy in the photo at the bottom of the page was the lovely warden of last night and I've just now remembered him telling me he's based in Burgess Park. Anyway, there needs to be more of them, as I rarely see one in Peckham.
    • Some of us oldies would associate Grove with the old Grove Vale School (which I went to in the 1950s)
