:-$ Scuse my ignorance but is The Green a local pub or just that very large "green" in the middle of where I am & where we wanna be? If it is a pub could you please let me know so that I can also come & stand with you. Cheers GG

PCG ~ I would love a lift if it is no trouble. Cheers

Hi GG

The Green is the closed down restaurant in ED Road, just by Goose Green swing park. I think it will be easier for you if I pick you up by the Clockhouse as before, in which case could I ask BP and MP to move their court to the otherside of the road (that is, Crystal Palace Road, just past the traffic lights).

By the way, do we need to book?

Ahhhhhhhhhh cheers PCG, very much obliged to you that would be great. I think the lovely Bagpuss is gonna book for us, if not let me know & I can trot across tomorrow, unfortunately I'm on an early Tues or I could have done it in the morning before work.

Take care & see you all Weds ~ GG

Good fun last night and I hesitate to say it, but i think that we were a little better.

There are a number of courts available so would anybody else like to play?

We have one court booked for next Wednesday, Bagpuss, El Gekko, Peckham GC and I are up for it but of we could could book another if more people are interested.

I've got an extra racket i can bring.

Unfortunately someone will have to go and book another court as apparently i can't book two courts using my fusion card, and if your not a member you have to pay in advance at the centre, quite frustrating!

It's ?9 for a court for an hour. ?7 if your a member (for the court, not each)

Ahhhhhhhhhh encouraging words one & all, I will bring both racquets & try to get some new shuttlecocks too, Mike do you want me to pick you up some grippy tape for your handle, if so which colour would you like, black, grey or something more trendy & garish to match your shorts (hee hee ~I deserve a thwack of racquet or well placed shuttlecock for that) AND I shall wear my most lairy shorts next week.

I have a Fusion card so could book it but will be down in Southend from early Sat til Mon eve so if anyone can get along that would be great, eeeeeek that smacks of lack of committment I know but I haven't seen my folks since August & the elusive Gecko must fulfil family duties as it's mothers birthday :-$ (NY Res - be a better daughter, hangs head in shame).

I dint mean to sound competitive & pushy & if truth be known I'm just as happy thwacking & prancing about without the points ~ bless dont let Bagpuss get hurt again next week, poor love, although I managed to sting poor Mikes ear with a lighting lick of the shuttlecock haa haa

See y'all Weds ~ GG

The thing with the fusion card is you have to have one for that particular Gym, thats why i couldn't do it before over the phone, i have a dulwich leisure centre meself! but computer said no! I don't mind if you lot want to play for points i'd just like to hit it back and forth and see if we can get it more than 6 times over the net!

    • The current wave of xenophobia is due to powerful/influential people stirring up hatred.  It;'s what happened in the past, think 1930s Germany.  It seems to be even easier now as so many get their information from social media, whether it is right or wrong.  The media seeking so called balance will bring some nutter on, they don't then bring a nutter on to counteract that. They now seem to turn to Reform at the first opportunity. So your life is 'shite', let;s blame someone else.  Whilst sounding a bit like a Tory, taking some ownership/personal responsibility would be a start.  There are some situations where that may be more challenging, in deindustrialised 'left behind' wasteland we can't all get on our bikes and find work.  But I loathe how it is now popular to blame those of us from relatively modest backgrounds, like me, who did see education and knowledge as a way to self improve. Now we are seen by some as smug liberals......
    • Kwik Fit buggered up an A/C leak diagnosis for me (saying there wasn't one, when there was) and sold a regas. The vehicle had to be taken to an A/C specialist for condensor replacement and a further regas. Not impressed.
    • Yes, these are all good points. I agree with you, that division has led us down dangerous paths in the past. And I deplore any kind of racism (as I think you probably know).  But I feel that a lot of the current wave of xenophobia we're witnessing is actually more about a general malaise and discontent. I know non-white people around here who are surprisingly vocal about immigrants - legal or otherwise. I think this feeling transcends skin colour for a lot of people and isn't as simple as, say, the Jew hatred of the 1930s or the Irish and Black racism that we saw laterally. I think people feel ignored and looked down upon.  What you don't realise, Sephiroth, is that I actually agree with a lot of what you're saying. I just think that looking down on people because of their voting history and opinions is self-defeating. And that's where Labour's getting it wrong and Reform is reaping the rewards.
    • @Sephiroth you made some interesting points on the economy, on the Lammy thread. Thought it worth broadening the discussion. Reeves (irrespective of her financial competence) clearly was too downbeat on things when Labour came into power. But could there have been more honesty on the liklihood of taxes going up (which they have done, and will do in any case due to the freezing of personal allowances).  It may have been a silly commitment not to do this, but were you damned if you do and damned if you don't?
