Next Tuesday I need to catch an early morning flight (6.55am) from Heathrow and I need to get there by 5.45am. I suppose the best way would be a minicab straight to the airport, but I also noticed that the Heathrow Express from Paddington starts at 5am so could get me there on time. Any easy way to get to Paddington at that time tough?

Thanks

Which terminal? Heathrow Express starts an 0510 and takes 15 mins to T1-3 and longer to T4 and 5 so would get you to T1-3 for 0525 or T4 / T5 for roughly 0535.

Is about ?18 each way so you may find it's cheaper just to get a cab the whole way! Worth getting a quote.

Otherwise you're looking at getting a few buses (176 to Trafalger Sq then 23 to Paddington? Would take a fair while!)

Dovetailing somewhat with the Addison Lee thread... never get a black cab from Heathrow to ED if you are paying for it yourself. I got one about five years ago (fortunately with a friend who was on expenses) and it was just short of ?100!! I shudder to think what it would cost nowadays.
I'm getting the 6.45 am BA flight to Edinburgh on Friday. Terminal 5 is a bit further away using public transport so I'm getting Keen on Barry Road to take me for the sum of ?45.50. I can sit back and doze for 45 mins or so and not have to worry about catching buses and trains etc.
I've taken early flights before and usually bus in the morning is actually very quick because roads are normally pretty empty- 436 goes straight there doesnt it from camberwell. shouldnt take more than half and hour from there I would think, but it depends where your travelling from and if you don't mind takng public transport.
You can usually get a room at Heathrow for ?40-?50 and then take the Tube out the evening before. Also has the advantage of getting a decent night's sleep although that's probably more relevant if you're going to face major jet-lag at the other end!

In T4 check out the Yotel since it's actually in the terminal and you can book it by the hour (so midnight to 5am) if that's all you need. I think I paid around ?55 in early November. Surprisingly comfortable for a cabin bed - it's a little like a first class sleeper compartment on the train but with better bedlinen, a TV, much quieter and a brilliant shower.

When it comes to getting to Heathrow, I'm from the "Think how much time it'll actually take, then double it" school of thought. You always risk hitting a snarl-up of some kind on that route. I'd rather be sat at the other end with a coffee, than en-route wondering if we'll get there. And sometimes, cabbies turn up late.

I'd say closer to hour and a half. But 60+ mins if you're wanting to cut it fine.

    • I've noticed the foxes are very frisky at the moment, it's mating season. Perhaps it was a male fox who saw you as a danger to his vixen and wanted to see you off.
    • I’m not sure how many other people have experienced this; but both me and one of my friends have the same story. Around Crawthew Grove and Crystal Palace Road: I was followed by a large fox right on my heel. At first I didn’t notice because I had my headphones on, but then I noticed my shadow had an extra lump in it, funnily enough, it was a fox, very very close to my feet. Even if I sped up walking it just tried to get closer - it was quite frightening actually, it was quite clear that it wanted to nip me. I didn’t know what to do so, I started to reprimand the fox and walked slowly away from it, facing it - which it didn’t seem to like and backed off a bit. I then proceeded to speed-walk away.   Quite frankly, the whole situation was quite embarrassing and a little bit frightful as I’d never had a fox even come up to me. I’ve heard of particularly curious foxes that might come up to someone who beckons them, and maybe even bite that person, but I’ve never heard of a fox chasing someone. The amount of confidence that it had was incredible.    When it happened, I was on the way to see some friends, and once I had told one of them, she told me the same thing happened to her.  if anyone else knows anything about this bitey fox then let me know!
    • Another recommendation for Andy. I needed an old kitchen removed as an emergency. Andy came over quickly and did a fantastic job. I have used Andy a few times. He is punctual, helpful and always does an  excellent job.
