Theatre plays to recommend to one another.

OK I just wrote the following in the Globe forum so technically it was off topic. But since a few of you have suggested you do go to the theatre now and again, may I suggest we use THIS topic to recommend plays to the rest of us?

Do go see the fascinating and imaginative and great fun version of Salome at Pentameters in Hampstead.

I have nothing to do with this production. Except one of the actors was in my play before!

Also, there's a futuristic version of Measure for MEasure at Players Theatre Villiers Street next month if you want to google that and check it out.

*swoons* such a shame poor Alice decided to throw herself off of a cliff seconds after the most beautiful look in film history!

Aaaaanyway, the play deals with a disturbing subject, but was so so wonderfully acted, and made you question your immediate stereotyping of people in these situations. The direction and the acting were amazing, and I left there feeling like I'd seen something very very special!

And normally I find the theatre rather boring to be honest.

I really hope to get a chance to see this again one day. I could also imagine it being made for channel 4.

Went to see Absurd Person Singular last night - good cast of Jane Horrocks, Jenny Seagrove and Gordon Sinclair (who knew he was sooooo tall). I really enjoyed it and even laughed out loud! Not everyone's cup of tea though.

Went to see Avenue Q last night.

It was passable. The songs let it down (and there are a lot of them). And the script wasn't fantastic either. And my wine was warm. And the woman in front laughed overly hard at all the unfunny bits.

debbie tucker green's new play at the Royal Court is worth looking out for - she's a very powerful writer - very original - not necessarily an entertaining night out as such, but definitely makes people think -

Quite fancy seeing Dealer's Choice too at the Trafalgar Studios.

Big fan of Irish playwrights Conor McPherson and Owen McCafferty; like new playwright Laura Wade; and also the work of Dennis Kelly.

Saw Dealers Choice when it was on at the Menier Chocolate Factory - do go and see it - Roger Lloyd Pack is great in it

I'm a massive Conor McPherson fan as well.. I loved the film he wrote called "I Went Down". "Brendan & Trudie..." less so

As for theatre club - didn't Mike Paeleologus suggest something similar of late - abeit with a more classical bent. I think there would be plenty interested...but who is going to queue outside TCKTS in Leicester Sq for 10 half price numbers..

I often queue in Leicester Sq in my lunch hour to get theatre tickets - you can look online each day to see what is available - but more often than not you can slightly cheaper seats on lastminute.com.

The Royal Court does special deals if you join their facebook group; the Old Vic does tickets on a Wednesday for ?10 if you're a Southwark resident; the National has its ?10 travelex deal - there's plenty of great theatre for reasonable prices out there.

Re McPherson's films - did you ever see his second film, The Actors, which had Dylan Moran and Michael Caine in it? Omigod - it was terrible. A right proper Turkey!

Cherry Orchard opens Tuesday 26th at Lion & Unicorn 44 Gaisford Street NW5 2ED.

I know some of the actors in it and the director's Russian so he's got his angle.

If you fancy catching up on a classic for a tenner you could do worse!

A mate of mine saw Mamma Mia recently and she was delightfully surprised.

I still ain't going, tho.

The cast (well all 2 of them) has changed, which is a shame, as the original 2 were amazing, but I would highly recommend a trip to see this!

Last Saturday night I went to see the Masque of the Red Death at BAC - very very very strange (and then some). If you can get tickets for it (returns only) then GO.

This Thursday I am going to see Othello at the Donmar and I am really looking forward to that. I can't wait to see Chiwetel Ejifor in the title role. It's sold out on the basis of Ewan McGregor as Iago but I really can't see him playing a bad guy - he's always the good guy. Anyway, can't wait.

Masque of the Red Death - is that an Edgar Allen Poe story?

Yes, ostensibly it is an Edgar Allen Poe story but the "story" is not where the focus is. I don't really know how to explain how it works except to say that no two people come away with the same impressions. Suffice it to say, I spent Saturday night creeping around BAC in the very-near dark, wearing full evening dress, high heels and a mask. It was very strange. It got quite scary too. Especially as you are specifically encouraged to ditch your partner/friends and go round on your own. Here, read a review or two:

I saw Othello last Friday and Ejifor is absolutely fantastic.

Desdemona is great too, they're all pretty fab in truth though.

And I agree with Ladygooner

in recommending Dealer's choice. The first half especially is hilarious.

Ok not strictly theatre but I went to the ROH last night to see the ballet... WOW! It was so beautiful. We saw three ballets - all condensed versions - Chroma, Different Drummer and the Rite of Spring. Different Drummer was a bit weak and certainly longer than it shouldve been but Chroma and the Rite of Spring were amazing! :))

I still haven't recovered from playing Mme Ranyevskia when I trained at drama school. One of the most challenging plays I have ever been involved in. My heart pounds just at the thought of it....MW74 drifts to another place alot prettier and more fragrant......
