apbremer
I recall a cinema at Crystal Palace in Church Rd. On walking past recently I noticed that it seems to be in fine fettle, with a refurbished ticket foyer and appears ready to open. Does anybody know what is going on?? Annie07
Great something is starting in Crystal PalaceCome and join us at The Bigger Picture at EastDulwich TavernWe would like to show more films but need more helpers, both on the night and to choose films. All profits go to local charities. Food and drink at EDT comfy sofas and a film a month but if anyone has any time and energy we could show more films. We have projector big screen and sound so could go fortnightly or weekly and we are really cheap and for charity.have a look at The bigger pic website and contact us if you would like to see you at EDTAnnie Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23754-a-cinema-for-ed/page/11/#findComment-614111 Share on other sites
Voyageur
apbremer Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I recall a cinema at Crystal Palace in Church Rd.> On walking past recently I noticed that it seems> to be in fine fettle, with a refurbished ticket> foyer and appears ready to open. Does anybody know> what is going on??A cinema for CP - I flipping wish! (and so do the residents of CP). In short, Picturehouse cinemas were hoping to restore the old cinema to its former glory when it was sold by the Bingo chain that had inhabited it for some years but were beaten in the bid by KICC, a supposed church (which largely seems to be a front for money making on a large scale from those who can least afford it) who wanted to bus in thousands from outside the area for 'services'.Bromley council turned down the change of use intention but KICC refuse to sell. Picturehouse are still waiting in the wings and the CP community are very much behind them. The battle has been going on for some years :(http://www.campaign.picture-palace.org/http://www.crystalpalacelife.com/index.php/kunena/general-chat/90-cinema-for-crystal-palace#1633http://www.virtualnorwood.com/forum/topic/12460-25-church-road/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23754-a-cinema-for-ed/page/11/#findComment-614340 Share on other sites

Does anybody know> what is going on??It's not in fine fettle. The building was acquired in a sealed bid from Gala Bingo by the KICC - a prosperity gospel and 'charity' - a couple of years back. This link http://www.campaign.picture-palace.org/ and a search on '25 Church Road' on local forums will give you an idea of the local opposition to what's gone on and plans for a cinema should the KICC ever decide/be forced to sell.**Might as well delete this post - it's just a repeat of Voyageur's one which I'm sure wasn't there when I posted!! JC
A very good idea - I hope that you can complement the Ritzy's offering though and not just compete head to head with it. Great if you were able to incorporate a venue for live music too (like the Ritzy does in their bar). ED is short of a decent small music venue. Jeremy
People always say they like the idea of live music, but in reality, there's actually a very small market for it. Certainly nowhere near enough to support a little venue in every neighbourhood. Sophiescarlett89
Good idea; but where would you locate it!? There isn't much room on Lordship Lane really!?Also yes, Ritzy and Peckhamplex are both quite close, im not particularly keen on Peckhamplex, but do go to Ritzy cinema quite often, though would definitely like a cinema on my road lol :-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23754-a-cinema-for-ed/page/11/#findComment-615351 Share on other sites
landellite
I'd love to see somewhere like Newcastle's fabulous Star & Shadow in SE London (http://www.starandshadow.org.uk/) - a volunteer-run cinema, music and comedy venue that also serves as a meeting place for special interest groups and classes. All run as a Community Interest Company. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23754-a-cinema-for-ed/page/11/#findComment-615356 Share on other sites
0017bond
Good idea (depending where) The style of the Clapham picture house would be good. The now vacant flower shop next to the East Dulwich train station would be a good place for it Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23754-a-cinema-for-ed/page/11/#findComment-615699 Share on other sites
IngridB
The Bigger Picture Film Club http://www.thebiggerpic.co.uk/ is screening RED SORGHUM on Wednesday upstairs at the EDT. It would be great if any of you could come along! It is based on the novel Red Sorghum Clan by Nobel laureate Mo Yan.In 1920?s China a girl is ravished en route to an arranged marriage with an elderly, leprous winemaker. He mysteriously dies, and her ravisher eventually lives with her so that together they may make the red sorghum wine. The tone shifts from light to dark, humour to horror and sacrifice with the arrival of Japanese forces. Zhang fills the screen with rich, sensuous images and uses actors, music and colour in a deeply expressive way. The stuff of legend - a subversive tribute to the vitality and endurance of Chinese peasant culture.7pm Bar/themed snacks; 7.50 Introduction; 8pm FilmFree raffle prizes courtesy of Rye Books, Push Studios Tickets ?7 in person from EDT, Lordship Lane; or online from WeGotTickets http://www.wegottickets.com/event/197861 or on the door. cici
Goodness it would be amazing if you could get weatherspoons out of the forest hill theatre and use that for a cinema!! It could be glorious inside as it already has an art deco feeling, just needs a little tlc!! Its never really that busy so perhaps you should approach them as Forest hill is getting some lovely little shops and cafes opening and think it would thrive like the ritzy! jimbo1964
Forest Hill cinema was great. Unlikely Wetherspoon's will give that one up). I haven't read this whole thread(s) but I think there's a campaign in Crystal Palace to reopen a cinema up there too (currently being used by some god botherers).
