Some scenes of Danger UXB were filmed on the school that used to be on Archdale Road and there was a pop video a couple of years ago that was filmed in the old 711 shop. Apparently Idris Elba was seen being filmed around here not so long ago :)

Great idea for a thread whisteria and lovely find re the Green Cross Code kford.

20 or so years ago in Langton Rise (by Camberwell Old Cemetery) I was surrounded by police in full riot gear and carrying automatic weapons who rushed towards me - I only saw the cameras filming an episode of The Bill after I'd had a mild heart attack!

I saw Treacle Jr premier at the London Film Festival. An enjoyable evening made more fun by spotting the various locations close by, Camberwell Old Cemetery where there is a sex scene (not gratuitous/pornographic), the tree he runs into on the Rye and the like. They also go from round here to Waterloo in about a minutes walk, but of course films don't need to respect the urban environment. Its shown occasionally on that London channel you find by mistake, in-between British football and gangster films. On second watching it wasn't so great, makes a difference seeing it in a plush cinema (BFI).

Mr Bean drives up Westwood Park and all he can see is the sky.

Peter Davison was in a drama also filmed on Westwood Park, but can't find it in IMDB, also featured Dulwich Park and Horniman School (obsessive husband who wont let his wife leave him).

And Babylon thingy about the Met Police filmed a shoot out again on Westwood Park - I came home to find police everywhere, but the mobile canteen gave it away.

Slightly off topic perhaps but currently the Musical "Becoming Nancy" getting great reviews in Atlanta & looks like heading for Broadway next year.. based on the book written by lifelong ED resident Terry Ronald & about his early school days & growing up in East Dulwich.. well written with great humour, well worth a read & fingers crossed the musical will get to the west end!

The below clip is "Night Bus" a song from the musical inspired by the N37 - great stuff!

    • I don't know how it works now but my late parents had little money when they were retired (just state pension and they rented their flat) and they used to take their cat to the Blue Cross (In Victoria if I remember correctly) where treatment was free for those who could'nt afford a private vet. I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
