Lots of recommendations on here, I know, but in the interests of giving a balanced picture mine really wasn't great. Still growing it out several months later unfortunately. Dare say it's my own fault for not sticking to my guns.

Sam aka Jack, who is training at Willis B, did a better job, and as he's frequently touting for models for free cuts and colour in the Wanted section I think you'd do better trying him if you've got a bit of time to spare and don't mind the slightly odd atmosphere there (Willis B, not the Wanted section).

No I actually work on the ships for Steiner but was at Vidal Sassoon prior to that.

I was advertising to do some mobile yes and have been doing a little local market research and was shocked at the results I found, ie prices... Having worked in the west end I'm used to west end prices but suddenly operating locally and seeing such prices made me feel a little sick inside.. I merely mentioned hob as it came up in my research of local pricings.

I was comparing award winning to ED's finest on prices, that's why I used hob as an example so very sorry if anyone got the impression I was working for them.

But when trying to compare to judge my own prices I was pretty shocked and felt I needed to rant.

Willis B are not good. I went their recently as my normal hairdresser in central London was fully booked and I needed a hair cut. The prices are the same at each salon - but the quality is not.

For the price that they charged the haircut I got was disappointing - I am having it cut again at my usual salon less than 4 weeks after I had it cut at Willis B.

I won't go there again.

I'm inclined to agree that the hairdressing prices in ED are as high, or higher in some cases, than in central London.

Sadly I haven't been wowed by the customer service, the cut and colouring expertise or the general ambience in any of our local salons and I've tried several of them.

Much as I'd prefer to support local businesses, until our ED salons up their game or we get a new one in the 'hood, I'd rather pay about the same price and head to Charles Worthington in Covent Garden where I can get truly pampered and drink free fizz while I get re-blonded.

Well as long as you've got Mr Superbuzzcuts up west, of course some prices in ED are going to be higher than some prices in town.

I haven't yet found anywhere local prepared to fleece me more than I pay for my L'Oreal Colour Trophy winning colourist (she does shoots for Vogue, you know), but as soon as I do, I'm ditching that glory-hunting floosie and heading south for my streaks.

I used to go to Charles Worthington in Covent Garden, but unfortunately my excellent stylist left and from then on it all went downhill.

They used to give free fizz, then they started charging - if it's now free again, they must be trying to win back custom!

I suggest you give Shingo at Kuki in Bellenden Road a go. Free cup of tea only, and you don't get the posh upstairs waiting room with the sofas, but his cutting is a damn sight better than the last couple of people I had at Charles Worthington, one of whom ruined my hair for months.

ETA: They did give me free haircuts for a while until it grew back to how it was supposed to be, but as the free haircuts weren't all that great either, it wasn't much compensation for rubbish hair.

I think the prices in ED area are ridiculous and have never been satisfied with the result. Last time I had my hairdone I payed ?59 for a group on deal (cut and highlights) in a very nice salon in Chelsea. So happy that I did not spend ?100 on Lordship Lane. Groupon really do have very good offers on quite frequently.

I had the worst cut and highlights ever at Willis B years ago not too long after they first opened. It cost about ?140 then for a so called full-head highlights that essentially covered the bits I could see. It was shockingly bad.

I also think that a lot of local hairdressers are very expensive for what you get. I have not had my hair cut locally for years and have no intention of ever doing so again.

I have always been very careful to try to  differentiate between fact and opinion in both  my posts and other people's, and I am not clear what your point is. • @NewWave I know how you feel. Like you, I've lived and spent prolonged periods of time in some pretty crazy places and always thought I could handle a bunch of kids. But, no - they got to me and I was shaking like a leaf afterwards. That's what age does to us.  But I did engage with them, so bear that in mind.  My advice would be to never let anything like that stop you doing the things you love. I'm certainly not going to stop using the park, there's no way they get to take away our cherished spaces!  If you see them, just change tack and keep out of their way. My dog won't even go that way again, so that's that problem solved. (If I see them again, I'm going to keep taking photos from a safe distance).
