Let's celebrate Southwark - the sun will be shining, people will be happy and proud - achievements will be celebrated - it'll be something to enjoy and remember. Why choose to be negative?

Whitten Timber on Peckham hill street will have a Caribbean food/music stool, ice cream van and candy floss stand outside its gates from 930am. . There will be limited parking available as well to watch the torch fly pass.

We went to the Olympic Torch Relay at Crystal Palace the other day

It was brilliant

I was on my bike on the way to meet my family (wearing my all black kit with a green flouro top, riding a black bike) I sometimes get mistaken for a police person in my garb.

So as the torch entered Crystal Palace park via the side gate, I slipped in and cycled behind the torch bearer team and was waved through the crowds by security. It was very funny because for a while I must of looked like part of the official team.

That was until a sharp eyed policeman in a van came along side me, looking me up and down. It took him a moment

"Oi you, hop it" he said with a thumb back hitcher gesticulation

He was laughing though as he knew what I was up to

In retrospect, I think my "Royal Curtain" waving maybe over egged it & got me ejected

Ah, what fun though

If you spot a tall, bald man with a beard - that's me. Not relaying just watching.

I've been trying to check ( on the getahead site )for impact on roads around Peckham during todays Torch Relay .

As far as I can see there will be none .

I find this hard to believe .

Has anyone else looked ,can they give a link ?

Or even better just give the details .

I live in Crystal Palace and wasn't going to bother but at the last minute I changed my mind and sauntered down to have a look - glad I did, was more fun than I expected and crowds of people had turned out. I had a lump in my throat (to my surprise) as the torch bearer jogged by but the best bit for me though was the Pavarotti shaped traffic cop on his motorbike who sailed past in advance of the torch bearer deploying a comical sounding horn, a huge grin and a wave at the crowds - he went down a storm.

Didn't spot 'Nette though...

Thanks for that. I did not have a clue who he was...

I think that may of been the case for many..

Never knowingly been so close to a Bollywood Mega Star.

Fox :)

Thanks for those pictures, I saw the torch pass down Coldharbour Lane today, absolutely fabulous atmosphere. There have been two members of staff at Kings College Hospital who have carried the torch. They will personally visit the children's wards to ensure the children haven't missed out.

That's a nice story.

Ah, that explains the heavies...

    • Hi everyone, I'm Gen, a catsitter based in Sydenham - if you're away this summer and need some care for your pets, please do consider me!  I can typically cover Sydenham, Forest Hill, Penge, Anerley, Crystal Palace, East Dulwich and parts of Peckham. If it's outside those areas, it still might be worth messaging me to see if I can help. I'm registered with Cat in a Flat, with flawless reviews – I'm happy to accept clients through there, or just directly (you can just DM me on the forum here) - whichever you're more comfortable with. I've been catsitting for a few years, and also used to volunteer for Celia Hammond. Here's my profile https://catinaflat.co.uk/pet-sitter/377081 Ping me a message if you need help or have any questions!
    • And we humans bear a lot of responsibility for creating the conditions that brought foxes into urban settings. I certainly don't regard them as pests - they are noisy little criminals, but I'm very fond of them (we have huge numbers of them in my area - I rescued a lost baby fox earlier this year). However, there are pest control companies that use humane methods to deter them and redirect them to different territories (a friend of mine works for one, but sadly for OP, I don't think this is in their catchment area).
    • Please don't call them "pests". They are animals who have as much right to be here as we do. Which doesn't mean we can't use humane ways to keep them off our crops, like fruit cages and netting.
