....It really is wearing thin now, being trapped inside so often because the sky is always threatening a downpour! Really not very good for morale....keep telling myself it may be an Indian summer, but probably this is not the way forward as keeping the hope for a bit of sun alive will only lead to disappointment!

V depressed here too. Gloom gloom. Just got a new house and garden for the boys - 1. Can't use it as raining, 2. Even if could the rain/sun craziness has turned it into an overgrown wilderness. I know kids are supposed to not care about rain and go out in all weathers but mine do - it makes them both cry!!

i have had some lovely fun with the kids, just putting the wellies and rain coats on and going and jumping in as many puddles as we can find. It is free, and endless amount of fun. My bigger girl last friday said "Mummy, I am sooo happy". If you can't beat the weather, just join in.


On the other hand, I am finding myself saying phrases like I know my mother in law would, and that is a little bit scary "oh well, it'll be good for the garden" "what will I do with all the washing" etc etc.

yes my daughter's nursery day out was rained off twice !!! They were supposed to have a seaside today with paddling pool etc in the nursery playground and the paddling pool was cancelled (after they had all turned up with swimming costumes) because it was too cold.

It is really unbelievable. Much as I hate to bore on about the weather, I think especially when you have children, it does determine how your life is going!!

Hosting my daughter's 4 year old party on sunday. I really do not need rain.

Agreed, I am totally fed up of having washing hanging all over the house for days on end. AND my roses keep rotting before they've properly opened. (And it's quite annoying with the toddler, but having spend some of the last couple of weeks up at my mum's, at least there are quite a number of wet weather places to go round here, 'twas a bugger at hers, nowhere to go at all.)

Yes it is the washing that is doing my head in most (no tumble drier) and towels in the bathroom that don't dry overnight so are wet for the morning shower.


Mr TP is working at Olympics and ParaOlympics so goodness knows how I will fill an indoor summer with the warring brood ...

Mrs TP the big tumble dryers at the launderette are fantastic. I love it in the one on corner of Lrdship Lane and Pellat Road - it is so cosy.

Washing is doing my head in too. I like normal summer cos you can do the washing, get it out and back in dry in a few hours - not this summer!

As well as being horrible for children and parents trying to entertain them, it has caused many an argument in this house over our lack of tumble drier. 2 adults, 2 children (newish born) no tumble drier, very wet weather.

I just refuse to do bedding etc. And I DON'T CARE!!

I don't mind rain in moderation but it's these crazy storms (hail today FFS) that make going out so tricky! not good to be caught in one of those, esp not with a 3.5 yr old on scooter with not much waterproof clothing. Having said that I did manage to have a lovely day at the park today, somehow timed visit to cafe to coincide with rain outburst and were outside for the small bit of sunshine we had today. My tip is to head somewhere with places you can dive into if need be, e.g. around the dulwich park area - then you have cafe, library, bread of life cafe to nip into if it suddenly showers. Or peckham rye but has to be on days when 1 o clock club open, this week it's Tues/Thurs, so next week Mon/Weds/Fri. The cafe at DP is good for a bit of a play if stuck sheltering from the rain, and the cafe at PR is good for going out and playing in the garden bit if the sun does deign to come out. Whereas e.g. Goose Green is totally exposed! have ended up sheltering under the netball bit before...same with Ruskin Park.


Something about endless bad weather makes me v unimaginative when it comes to indoor activity too, I worry 9mth old is being overexposed to 3.5yr old's saturation in Ben10...

re washing: mine has been on the line since yesterday morning, has dried/been soaked alternately several times. It was almost dry when it went out as we have a washer dryer. ARGH! I am also lusting after a tumble drier, what a sign of my age! Does anyone know anything about the logistics of plumbing one into a cellar? presume if already have a washer drier there it'd be ok? sorry for a v boring tangent!

Belle (and others!), we have an AMAZING tumble dryer, it is this model or very very similar and requires no plumbing so can go anywhere with a socket! you just empty the water container every handful of washes, no problem at all. Think condensers used to have a bad reputation but this model is fantastic and I love (saddo) that we can take it with us wherever we move to in future without worrying about plumbing.

We paid ?180 for it and it was money well spent - plus interestingly it didn't seem to add to our electricity costs as the heat it emits actually warmed the house quite a lot! We keep ours under the stairs,it's quite wide so worth measuring.


Boring but life changing, especially with cloth nappies!!

Haha Buggie! I was recommended the Beko or a Bosch equivalent by some friends and went for the Beko as reviews were fab and it was about ?150 cheaper. Have not been disappointed and am a bit of an evangelist about how a tumble dryer is hugely important with little ones!!

      Your post is confusing. You say I’ve used ‘public shame and ostracism’ that just doesn’t make sense to me.  Maybe southwark should have a similar poster thanks for referring to it.

      The shots are mainly of Melford Road and the rubric suggests that the street cleaner bags on 'Thursdays'. The general rubbish collection is on Tuesdays. If the bags haven't been collected on Friday, but have been left for general disruption over the weekend then the bin men will see simply a rubbish strewn road with this rubbish not in any bin. They don't have time to street clean themselves so will not collect it. I reiterate that the crews I see for general rubbish collection, the 'bin men' are careful and considerate in their collections from bins, some of which are indeed very full, to overflowing. They don't collect bagged rubbish left on the street away from bins, nor have they the time or are tasked to clean the streets of scattered rubbish.

      I have been thinking about using an AI to cross-reference comments; between public commenting platforms along with the news of the day, for past events (that needed to be "dealt with" for narrative management), future events which need to be "shaped" or "nudged" to move the public in a particular direction (narrative control) and what it is that forms the "community". I think it is happening on a large number of comment forums. I can already see a pattern with a number of single-issue commenters (that have the nerve to accuse others of being "obsessed" or of being a member of certain political parties) that make feeble attempts to comment on other subjects but really have only one obsession. They are obvious. But I also want to see the patterns of enforcers and Igor / Renfield types.
