rye_lass
I'll admit I haven't read the whole thread - but has anyone tried to meet with the owners to discuss the objections? This online community of ours is great for sharing opinions and raising issues - but you can't beat speaking to someone face to face. piazzola
Dear neighbours,Thanks for all your support. Due to the objections the matter of the Great Exhibition's license extension will go to a hearing on August 30th. This is good news as it means the Council will further scrutinise the matter before making a decison. We met the Council and handed in the petition. Jonathan Mitchell also met with us and as James said has submitted an objection, together with James and Rosie. Thanks to all 3 Councillors for their support, we really appreciate it!Given the number of objections and serious concerns raised by neighbours, Councillors and Tessa Jowell MP (who has sent a letter objecting to the proposal) WE WOULD LIKE THE GREAT EXHIBITION TO WITHDRAW THIS APPLICATION, ahead of the hearing. We are currently exploring other issues with the license, as James has outlined on his message above. Please if you live in the vicinity of TGE and would like to discuss this with us, PM me. JohnL
We in Peckham Rye made a large number of objections to new betting shops in Rye Lane and Peckham High Street recently, it was ignored.Knocked the community spirit back somewhat Unfortunately. If they withdraw the application they may be able to re apply at a later date. Which would mean all the work the local folk have done with objections may need to be done again. If the application goes ahead and gets Rejected, that may be better for all. How do you see this. Fox. DJKillaQueen
The difference between Rye Lane and the GE John, is that one is a retail area and the other is residential. The council can only consider objections in relation to four catagories, none of which would be relevant to a betting shop situated in retail high street, opening normal retail hours. It's not that the licensing committee ignored those objections, but that they felt they had no merit given the location and nature of the application. With the GE however, there is a very good case to argue that extension of hours will have a detrimental impact on neighbouring residents within the criteria of the four catagories allowed for objection. Personally (and given the history of licensing committees) I can not see the GE application being successful in it's current form. The GE will however be able to make ammended applications in the future if this one fails, so unfortunately it may well be an ongoing issue for local residents. JohnL
Ironically someone will be trying to sell flats inThat building above the soon to be betting shop, andI live above another. My hope is the bottom endOf Rye Lane and Peckham Rye change gradually. (The rye hotel is a good neighbour). But GE is a much quieter area I know (partial to a pintIn the Actress). Can't really see what the The GE gains From disrupting the neighbourhood there - hope it doesn'tIntend to go he way of the old FHT.DJKillaQueen Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> The difference between Rye Lane and the GE John,> is that one is a retail area and the other is> residential. > > The council can only consider objections in> relation to four catagories, none of which would> be relevant to a betting shop situated in retail> high street, opening normal retail hours. Mutrik
Have to say that I was quite pleased that the pub was refurbished and was looking forward to a really nice local pub being on my door step. Little did I know that the new owners got the license changed straight away so that they can be open for longer than CPT could and in particular that they are allowed to have doors and windows open until the pub closes at 12.30 so that us 'lucky' neighbours get to listen to the music as we try to go to bed.... Would have been nice to be consulted when the original license was granted. To now apply for an extended license to 2.30 with dancing is ridiculous as this is a residential area. Have had no choice but to object to the council. I am being disturbed enough as it is now. DulwichFox
Did speak to one of the management team a while back... I mentioned Security as I thought any late license would require Security. The guy I spoke to quoted that Security would not be nessecary as they were not on the main drag. And that it was only going to cost ?50.00 or so if it was needed. I was under the impression that the bars on Lordship Lane pay a lot more than that for their security.. They obviously had not even thought about it. DJKillaQueen
The usual deal with licensing is that any premise with late licensing is required to have door staff after 11 pm. Location has nothing to do with it. It's a standard requirement with most late licenses. ED Resident
There's clearly a lot of local objection to this application.Worth noting (as is referenced above) that the existing license conditions, and behaviour of the proprietors of the pub, are unreasonable.Should you be disturbed by the pub: - Call the Southwark Noise Complaint hotline on 020 7525 5777.- Email '[email protected]'- Keep a log of the disturbance (times, dates, reasons)Maintaining the volume of complaints to the Council will help to highlight the level of disturbance caused by the pub. The council employees will want a quiet life as much as local residents, so make the Pub's nuisance behaviour as much a part of their lives as ours. Sue
That's a very good idea - I didn't know the council did that.I guess they want to make sure the formal hearing doesn't go on for hours and hours so they get as much of the discussion done as possible beforehand?
