If one has been bitten by a bug (dunno wot kin) and doesn't have access to any anti-hestimine or other creams wot else can I try?

A hospital? As I have found out to my cost a couple of times.

One time, I spent three days in bed following a bite, sought medical advice and got some kind of tablet. Vomiting, night sweats, hallucinating, the whole shebbang. Finally the doctor came round a second time and said, did I have any antihistimines in, and within half an hour, I was back on my feet, feeling fine.

Apparently urine is soothing on jellyfish stings, I have this on the best possible authority via an episode of Friends.

was revising this bit yesterday (doing big life support course next wk!) for jellyfish stings they say use vinigar - no mention of urine (bht have seen that ep of friends too!!)

You'll b pleased to know I have not died from the itchy bugger of a bite altho still achy (no tis not the after effects of the previous day/night).

Learnt some interesting things about ticks tho... apparently the NHS advise against the use of lighting a match to remove the tick.

I should prob hastily point out it werent a tick that attacked me! :p

I once burned a tick off a doberman with a cigarette - it was right next to his v. delicate parts and I wasn't half scared!

Why don't you simply chop off the offending limb, boil all of your clothes in a big pot,and burn down your house. I am sure it is the only way forward under the circumstances, and by the way, please don't be offended if I move seats (OHMYGOD - RUN FOR THE HILLS, KALAMITYKEL IS CRAWLING!!!).

I find that the ritual sacrifice of an attractive furry creature is the best solution to this kind of problem. There are many cats wandering the streets of East Dulwich and these are a handy resource in times of such need.

We could just grab a pair of "doggers" from College Road - they are genuine animals, and nothing is too good for them.

I have a large Le Crueset caserole dish I could put on my Neff brushed steel range and boil lots of water. What do you say? I am in the mood for a linching... (how does one spell that word?)

Brendan, aren't dock leaves used to soothe nettle stings and are usually found near nettles strangely. Anyway, I agree with Dulwichmum, amputation is surely the most foolproof remedy available.
