I've avoided this thread so far, as the thought of the CPT closing fills me with an unparalleled dread!

The fact is, that whilst you're totally right Sue about the lounge bar and the plant things outside, the owner simply won't spend a penny on it, she wants rid, and that's that.

I was actually sitting at the bar in the public bar on Saturday, so probably saw you.

EDIT: Thought there was only one other couple in there and you must have been half of it, but just remembered some more people did come in later on and yes, sat at the bar :)

But sorry have no memory whatsoever for faces - very rude I know - and can't remember what anybody looked like. Unless you were the guy in the stetson-type hat, lol :))

The girls have tried getting some better wine in in an effort to improve things for odd people who drink wine in pubs. Like I said before though, it's all down to the owner at the end of the day, and she aint gonna do a thing.

Keef do you know why the CPT is proving hard to sell? Is it the sale price in relation to trading profit? If that's the case then surely it would make sense for the owner to make an effort to please a few potential punters and increase turnover = best selling price.

A few years ago when the patio area was built and they 'ternyised' the pub, a sign went up saying no dogs, no work clothes and no something else (can't remember).

This meant a lot of local tradesmen (including my neighbour who'd being going there with his crew every weekday for almost 30 yrs) could not go in at the end of their day. I know they also felt a little resentment and therefore at weekends if they were out for a pint, went elsewhere i.e. the Hearn or the Castle.

This is no dig at the bar or the owner/proprieter, just ONE of the reasons why there are less customers there than there were, say, 10 years ago.

It's not on the high st, it's purely residential area so it's going to be mainly working folks living nearby.

The 'no work clothes' thing is just plain stupid.

Not only do you alienate tradesmen who would otherwise come-in for a lunchtime and post-work pint, it also gives the impression that it's the kind-of place which 'troublemakers' need to be excluded from.

Like people wearing overalls can't have a drink without starting a fight.

Spot on!

Out of interest when was the last time you tried?

The work clothes thing was really stupid, they used to get a load of workmen in after work, especially on Fridays, and between about 5pm-8pm they'd drink a sh!t load of stella between them. That rule must have really damaged the takings. The current staff don't seem so bothered about it, the sign is still there, but I don't think they bother enforcing it at all.

I don't know the reason it's not selling, there was one potential buyer who had pretty much sealed the deal (I know his girlfriend through a friend, and he was giving her a guided tour), but something obviously went wrong late in the day.

When there are so many other establishments selling very good wine, why would I go the the CPT? It's a dump.

    • I can't recommend Leon too highly.  He provides a first-rate service.  He's friendly but also professional.  He sorted out my extractor fan which  was running incessantly because another electrician had bodged it. At the same time he saved me buying a new shaver unit which had stopped working when the extractor wouldn't stop running. He was also uncomplaining about having to to go up and down 3 flights of stairs between the bathroom and the electrical power unit. He will definitely be my first port of call for any future electrical issues.  His contact number is: 07707 925039.

    • of course most people would avoid the "stupid" term - but I'm sticking with it fact is no other European would be so dumb, and even with the same information, the  same media, the same everything, 2 of the countries within the UK saw ho stupid an idea it was - but only the English (who played a large part in the Welsh result) pushed ahead - there is something defiantly arrogant and stupid and it isn't just down to bad info and bad leadership But that was all 2016 - it's people in 2025 who claim it to be a good idea executed badly who are especially stupid Now - does calling people stupid help anyone? It's not especially politically gainful and just gets peoples' backs up - but it remains a truth and only when the country as a whole genuinely holds it's hands up and admits the stupidity (rather than downplaying it as a poor decision - no shade meant Mal - you are just nicer and politer than me) will it begin. to turn the tide Also worth mentioning that yes I am as intractable and blunt with friends and family who voted Leave as well - this isn't me hiding behind some online anonymous account. This is what I'm like
