The chances of a guy getting beaten just because of his ethnicity seem incredibly low to me. He must have done something to seriously piss them off. Not saying it's excusable, not saying it's right to take the law into your own hands, but there is surely more to this than nasty Afghans beating up poor innocent black kids.

Any 'profiling' the Afghans are using will be based on where the trouble and threat to their business is coming from.

If white people or Chinese are threatening then I'd expect they will be the focus.

There's no excuse for vigilantism and it is illegal, but trouble-makers know that and will abuse that restriction on shopkeepers' reaction.

Haha!!! Shouldn't laugh, but that is hilarious!

Otta - if I told you most of them were poorly spelt too.

The stupidity of the whole things makes the mind boggle.

If you want to protest at shop owners using excessive force in dealing with thefts, all well and good, but I don't think race is an issue. Beyond the fact that Asians own the shop and Africans are stealing from it.

Did the people who posted originally and highlighted there was a protest against the shopkeeper 'racists' not hear/see these placards and chants ?!

Like i said originally, more to it than the impression we were supposed to get.

If there were placards / chants of this nature I'd expect the police to respond, because it's blatant racism.

I'm glad I have not experienced much racism personally, but doubly glad because it means little danger of me being tempted to pull the race card as a default distraction to things I or my peers have done.

DC - I'm not questioning your post, just to be clear. I am shocked though at the content from some of the protestors, and the nature of it all being at odds with the impression the earlier posters tried to create.

Maybe the thread needs now to be re-named: "Hypocritical Racist Slur By Friends Of Found-Out Shoplifters" ?

Unless there's more 'information' to be had.

IT IS NOT FANTASY I HAVE WITNESS AN ENTIRE INCIDENT AT KHANS BEFORE SOMETIME AGO OVER THE SAME THING A PHONE. THE MAN WOULD NOT LEAVE AND THEY MAN HANDLED HIM, THEN WHEN THE POLICE CAME THEY MAN HANDLED THE MAN AGAIN AND TOOK HIM TO THE STATION I WENT THE STATION TO TRY TO GIVE EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THE MAN AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NON OF MY BUSINESS. EARLIER IN AUGUST 2012 MY DAUGHTERS FRIEND CALLED ME AT HOME ASKING IF I COULD COME AND HELP HER TO GET HER MONEY BACK FOR SOME DODGY PHONE SHE HAS BOUGHT. I TOLD HER TO OFFER TO BUY A MORE EXPENSIVE PHONE FROM THEM AND LET THEM TAKE THE DODGEY ONE BACK AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO GIVE HER A RECEIPT THEN SHE MUST ASK ABOUT THERE POLICY ON RETURNS AND CHANGE HE MIND INSTANTLY ABOUT THE PHONE SHE NOW HAVE WITH THE RECEIPT SHE GOT HER MONEY BACK. BUT SHE WAS TRYING FOR OVER AN HOUR AND WAS OFFERED HALF THE MONEY BACK FOR THE PRICE OF THE PHONE AND TO COME BACK LATER FOR THE REST OF THE MONEY JUST LIKE THE STORY WE HEAR WITH THIS BOY. IT IS A CASE OF ILLEGAL THEFT FROM THE SHOP KEEPERS AND ABOVE THE LAW BEHAVIOUR AND CRIMINAL RECORD BEING GIVEN OUT TO INNOCENT PEOPLE, THE STAFF HAVE GONE OVER AND BEYOND THE TOP AND THE POLICE IS SUPPORTING THIS BY ACCIDENT.

GROSS LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE SHOPPERS ARE ENTITLED TO TREATED WITH RESPECT AND DIGNITY THE GOVERMENT NEED TO SORT OUT THE CONSTANT ABUSE BECAUSE THE DIRECTION THINGS IS HEADING IN DONT LOOK GOOD. YOU DONT EXPECT TO HEAR THAT A SHOP KEEPER TOLD A PARENT IN FRONT OF A POLICE THAT I WILL SHOOT YOU AND NOT BE HANDCUFFED THIS IS DISGRACFUL. EVEN IF HE CAN PAY IS WAY OUT OF COURT IT SHOULD STILL BE DEALT WITH PROPER BY THE POLICE. SO THEY KNOW BRITAIN DOES NOT TOLERATE TREATS OF THIS NATURE. WHAT DISAPLINARY BODY DOES SHOP KEEPER COME UNDER? IF NONE ONE SHOULD BE CREATED. SUSPENDED FROM TRADING 30DAYS OR SOMETHING.....

looks like some of the vigorous CAPITALISED posts have been removed, perhaps because of their inflamatory nature.

it seems clear now that the originally painted scene of one-way aggravation is in fact a two-way street, but the earlier posters omitted to mention the 'other way'.

if someone was attacked by a shop keeper one can easily assume that this shop keeper is correct but if you buy a phone that don't work what is policy on getting your money back from these secondhand dealers should you not know that if it stops working straight away that you will only get back half your money. very serious customer problem always leading to people being beaten up in peckham. Sort it out Mr khan. please advertise you policy and trade fairly. same old story year in year out.

So let's be clear here "DebatetheBait@48" - what you are alleging is this:

Someone bought a phone from Khans

It turned out to be faulty

They tried to return it and demand a refund

They were told "no" by staff at Khans

Upon complaining they were summarily beaten up by members of Khans staff

These are serious allegations with serious legal implications. I hope you are aware of that. You should not post rumour or hearsay.

Do you know the person this happened to? Have you reported it to the the police? What was the outcome?

Basically some bruvvas tried to bully the Khan's staff and got owned, they're used to getting their way through rough talk and intimidation but they fell short this time.

Thing is, they don't come from a war zone, being brought-up on gangster hip-hop and dominating people to get what they want, a lush life with such easy pickings is no match for the genuine article.

I give this thread 2/10 for its manipulative efforts.

    • Pretty much, Sue, yeah. It's the perennial, knotty problem of imposing a tax and balancing that with the cost of collecting it.  The famous one was the dog licence - I think it was 37 1/2 pence when it was abolished, but the revenue didn't' come close to covering the administration costs. As much I'd love to have a Stasi patrolling the South Bank, looking for mullet haircuts, unshaven armpits, overly expressive hand movements and red Kicker shoes, I'm afraid your modern Continental is almost indistinguishable from your modern Londoner. That's Schengen for you. So you couldn't justify it from an ROI point of view, really. This scheme seems a pretty good idea, overall. It's not perfect, but it's cheap to implement and takes some tax burden off Southwark residents.   'The Man' has got wise to this. It's got bad juju now. If you're looking to rinse medium to large amounts of small denomination notes, there are far better ways. Please drop me a direct message if you'd like to discuss this matter further.   Kind Regards  Dave
    • "What's worse is that the perceived 20 billion black hole has increased to 30 billion in a year. Is there a risk that after 5 years it could be as high as 70 billion ???" Why is it perceived, Reeves is responsible for doubling the "black hole" to £20b through the public sector pay increases. You can't live beyond your means and when you try you go bankrupt pdq. In 4 yrs time if this Govt survives that long and the country doesn't go bust before then, in 2029 I dread to think the state the country will be in.  At least Sunak and co had inflation back to 2% with unemployment being stable and not rising.
    • He seemed to me to be fully immersed in the Jeremy Corbyn ethos of the Labour Party. I dint think that (and self describing as a Marxist) would have helped much when Labour was changed under Starmer. There was a purge of people as far left as him that he was lucky to survive once in my opinion.   Stuff like this heavy endorsement of Momentum and Corbyn. It doesn't wash with a party that is in actual government.   https://labourlist.org/2020/04/forward-momentum-weve-launched-to-change-it-from-the-bottom-up/
    • I perceive the problem.simply as spending too much without first shoring up the economy.  If the government had reduced borrowing,  and as much as most hate the idea, reduced government deiartment spending (so called austerity) and not bowed to union pressures for pay rises, then encouraged businesses to grow, extra cash would have entered the coffers and at a later stage when the economy was in a stronger position rises in NI or taxes would have a lesser impact, but instead Reeves turned that on its head by increasing ni which has killed growth, increased prices and shimmied the economy.  What's worse is that the perceived 20 billion black hole has increased to 30 billion in a year. Is there a risk that after 5 years it could be as high as 70 billion ???
