a really interesting read


i remember the chrome angels quite well


it's quite interesting to see tags and pieces popping up even now, from crews that were active back then


i saw a new tag from a member of WD (world domination) about a week ago which surprised me


i admit, tags aren't pretty, but do come from a very interesting movement


i am fond of all street art in it's many current incarnations


i still have original copies of the two books you mention

Have any of you seen what is going on at 265 Lordship Lane? The whole house (which is up for demolition) has been taken over by artists and is being painted inside and out. This is part of the upcoming street art festival which runs parallel to the Dulwich Festival in May. There will be a big opening party on 17 May but there is a lot to see before then.

I saw that as I cycled home this evening w at about 6pm. The cherry picker seemed to be on hire, but looked expensive, and he appeared to engaged on quite a large and ambitious - and from what i saw, impressive, piece of work. Can't wait to see the progress tomorrow morning. Is this the same wall that the 1985 piece was painted on? If so, how nice....

      thanks Jenijenjen and all - yes, i remember walking or taking the bus from the elephant (where i was working) to Camberwell to get there.  I think Tim - who's still at Franklin's -  was there in those days, and the woman who ran the cafe!  Other food places that i remember fondly are the ones in Neal's Yard (with the Hunkin sculpture that you could put a coin in ) and the basement lunch place at the Tottenham Court Road junction with Hanway Street...

      Did you try the emergency number posted above? It mentions lift breakdowns over the festive period outside the advertised  times. Hope you got it sorted x

      People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
