Hey - it's better than sitting on the couch watching Antiques Roadshow repeats.

Same line repeated by the council on twitter this morning

"For the time being our leisure centres remain closed following the change in government guidance. We are working hard with Everyone Active, our leisure centre operator, to make our centres COVID-19 secure, ready for reopening. We will provide further updates as soon as possible."

See this twitter thread. It really does sound like Everyone Active have demonstrated to the council through video tours, that they are ready to open, and the council are essentially now refusing to comment.

Thank you. I tried calling them an no answer. Does anyone know if you can do one off swims without joining?

Can Cllr McAsh shed any light as to what is happening here?

Yes you can - it?s probably easier to book online or download the Fusion Active app.

I thought it was bad enough that fast food chains and pubs were allowed to open before gyms and leisure centres. And now we can't access our local centres to stay fit and healthy, even though the government themselves have stated obesity is an issue and increases your risk of dying from COVID-19, so I fail to see why Southwark council aren't wanting to keep us all fit and healthy by opening them.

He used to be but he hasn't been on here much since the council's road closures were implemented....;-)

Yes I agree. An older relative of mine found that the only exercise she could comfortably do was swimming as she had severe arthritis- not everyone can pound the pavements or cycle

To me this implies 5 million is wanted for July.

"In early July, council leader Peter John told the News: ?Our contractors are saying they need money immediately to keep going, but that is five million not in our budget for things like our leisure facilities."
