Shutters

Can anybody recommend a shutter company? We have had a quote from a well known company but they seem incredibly expensive. Please let me know if you have had shutters installed in your home that you are pleased with and roughly what they cost as we would like to get a couple of quotes (that are hopefully competitive).

We recently used Tudor Touch for shutters in our Victorian mid-terrace house. They are a family firm based in Charlton Village. They were very professional and spent time with us discussing exactly what we wanted. We are delighted with the results and have had lots of compliments from friends and neighbours.

We had ShuttersUp come in for a quote. Ashley, one of the co-owners, came in to show samples and discuss all the options available (the different kinds of woods, the finish, the colours, showed photos etc). He measured our windows and gave a no-obligations quote on the spot which was reasonable especially given that they will come and install everything and make sure it works. As a reference, half cafe-style shutters in painted wood for a 3-window bay are about ?500 for the size of our windows and for the quality and finish we wanted. My friend paid about ?800 for full shutters on a smaller bay that she had to measure and fit herself (which were both nightmare tasks), so I'm not complaining. Her shutters didn't fit properly and it took her quite a few weeks to sort it out. He made really good suggestions and wasn't trying to make us choose a higher end product or anything that wouldn't suit our needs or budget. The service so far has been efficient, polite and trustworthy. Shutters will be delivered and installed in 6 to 8 weeks and I'll provide an update when we have them in!

The shutters are made in China in case anyone would prefer to go with English made ones.

Hope that helps!

ShuttersUp did my bathroom shutters last year and I've just had them back again for my downstairs bay. I'd resisted having anything in my bay but unfortunately I can't see my computer screen when the sun shines so I need something there.

The shutters won't be installed for 8 weeks, because that's the lead time, but ShuttersUp have installed some temporary paper blinds for the duration. They look OK and I can't make any more excuses for not getting work done.

Highly recommended:

A long overdue update on the shutters - they were delivered and installed when they were due (7 weeks from ordering). The team were really efficient and courteous (and considerate of a sleeping newborn!). They happily removed some existing blinds for me. Not had any problems with the shutters so can't comment on after-care, but I'm not worried on that front. The shutters look great, work well and we're very pleased we got them.

We've just had shutters installed by Shutters Up too. Couldn't fault the service, everyone we dealt with was friendly and polite. The two guys who did the installation were clearly really chuffed with how pleased I was with them!

They came out twice to bring samples and quotes (both times at pretty anti social hours for them, to fit round our work hours) and despite obviously having a product to sell, there was no hard sell at all or constant follow up calls once they'd made the initial visit.

The shutters have only been up for a few days, but seem sturdy enough. All in all very pleased.

Reading the positive comments about Shutters Up in this forum I also decided to contact them. Unfortunately i lost faith in the company before even getting the chance to meet them. This is because they twice cancelled an appointment. The first time they cancelled just a few hours before the scheduled visit (the person that was meant to visit got sick). The second time they took they initiative to cancel following an email i sent asking to be reminded when the appointment is scheduled for.

It is a shame because I'm sure they do a great job. But I can't allow myself to give them a third chance. I felt let down as a new customer.

We got ours in the bay and bathroom from California Company - you measure and fit yourself. Easy to do (we're not normally capable of DIY) and fit. For us it was about sustainable wood and cost and these guys were the cheapest.

Look out for new yr deals as well lots of shutter cos do this at this time of year....

    • What was he doing on the stage at Glastonbury? Or on the stage at the other concert in Finsbury Park? Grinning like a Cheshire cat whilst pissed and stoned 20 somethings on the promise of free internet sung-- Oh Jeremy Corbyn---  What were his policies for Northern mining towns with no jobs or infrastructure? Free Internet and university places for youngsters. What were his other manifesto pledges? Why all the ambiguity over Brexit?  I didn't like Thatcher, Blair or May or Tony but I respected them as politicians because they stood by what they believed in. I respect all politicians across the board that stick to their principles. Corbyn didn't and its why he got  annihilated at the polls. A socialist, anti imperialist and anti capitalist that said he voted for an imperialist and pro capitalist cabal. He refused to say how he'd vote over and over again until the last knockings. He did so to appease the Islington elite and middle class students he was courting. The same people that were screaming that Brexit was racist. At the same time the EU were holding black and Asian immigrants in refugee camps overseas but not a word on that! Corbyn created and courted a student union protest movement that screamed at and shouted down anyone not on the left . They claimed Starmer and the centre right of labour were tories. He didn't get elected  because he, his movement and policies were unelectable, twice. He turned out not to have the convictions of his politics and died on his own sword.    Reform won't win an election. All the idiots that voted for them to keep out Labour actually enabled Labour. They'll be back voting tory next time.    Farage wouldn't be able to make his millions if he was in power. He's a very devious shyster but I very much doubt he'd actually want the responsibility that governance requires.
    • The purge of hard left members that were part of Corbyn's, Mcdonnel's and Lansmans momentum that purged the party of right wing and centrist members. That's politics. It's what Blair did to win, its what Starmer had to do to win. This country doesn't vote in extreme left or right governments. That's partly why Corbyn lost  We're pretty much a centrist bunch.  It doesn't make it false either. It's an opinion based on the voting patterns, demography and statistics. Can you explain then why former mining constituencies that despise the tories voted for them or abstained rather than vote for Corbyns Labour?  What is the truth then? But he never got elected!!! Why? He should have been binned off there and then. Why he was allowed to hang about is an outrage. I hold him party responsible for the shit show that we've had to endure since.
