I've got a Toshiba combined VCR/DVD/Freeview which connects to the TV with a scart lead. For some reason I cannot fathom, the video replays perfectly but only in black and White. Everything else (DVD, TV play etc) works as it should. Settings for colour all on auto. I've checked all the cables are in and turned it on and off endlessly...any ideas? Anyone...?

Nope all videos - pre recorded and home recorded. i tried recording and it still played back in B+W. As far as I recall Star wars was not made in B+W!!

I've changed the scart, so there isn't anything else to connect - that links TV to combi box of tricks...very annoying and baffling in equal measures.

So....... what is it likely to be then. Maybe help the OP along?

one other option

does the VCR have aerial input and output? you could possibly connect an aerial cable from the aerial out to the TV (assuming it has a tuner) then retune the TV whilst a video is playing the VCR will then come up as a channel on the TV

I have no idea what the problem is. But if the built in DVD and freeview work fine, then it can't be the cable.

It could just be that the heads are badly worn and the VCR is reaching the end of its life. I'm sure the OP could pick up another one for free on Freecycle or somewhere.
