catma
I've got a Toshiba combined VCR/DVD/Freeview which connects to the TV with a scart lead. For some reason I cannot fathom, the video replays perfectly but only in black and White. Everything else (DVD, TV play etc) works as it should. Settings for colour all on auto. I've checked all the cables are in and turned it on and off endlessly...any ideas? Anyone...? Salsaboy
Try swapping out cables for different ones.Or have you just got black and white video tapes? StraferJack
All video tapes? Or have you got some NTSC ones (American)? They will struggle with many vcrs Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/26424-technical-question-re-vcr-replay-help/#findComment-587949 Share on other sites
catma
Nope all videos - pre recorded and home recorded. i tried recording and it still played back in B+W. As far as I recall Star wars was not made in B+W!!I've changed the scart, so there isn't anything else to connect - that links TV to combi box of tricks...very annoying and baffling in equal measures. pablogrande
could be a couple of thingsdirty heads - use head cleaning tapeadjust tracking on the VCRon the input settings of the TV there may be an option to change from RGB to PAL swap these around Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/26424-technical-question-re-vcr-replay-help/#findComment-588219 Share on other sites
pablogrande
one other optiondoes the VCR have aerial input and output? you could possibly connect an aerial cable from the aerial out to the TV (assuming it has a tuner) then retune the TV whilst a video is playing the VCR will then come up as a channel on the TV Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/26424-technical-question-re-vcr-replay-help/#findComment-588223 Share on other sites

Maybe help the OP along?I have no idea what the problem is. But if the built in DVD and freeview work fine, then it can't be the cable. It could just be that the heads are badly worn and the VCR is reaching the end of its life. I'm sure the OP could pick up another one for free on Freecycle or somewhere. ianr
Check, via the configuration menus, that your devices are still set for RGB input/output and not S-video. the-e-dealer
from a fix it website relating to this model. Two things, I was using a flaky budget=price SCART cable which caused a colour probolem. A techie friend said to view on AV rather than TV, which worked. catma
Thanks - tried the AV not TV and no joy. But will try again with new scart - can always do with a scart lead or two around! the-e-dealer
let me know how it goes. Scart leads are the worst cable type in domestic use!
