Did anyone else watch this? I'm really not sure what I thought of it, it's 5 parts, and I don't know if I can be bothered giving up another 4 hours of my life on it... It has however got some really good actors in it.

Cliched and hackneyed crap in my opinion. The opening sequence with brother arriving and meeting strange people in brother's flat, knife weilded, but it was being used to cut salad! ID cards making sci fi noises in swipe door entries, people disappearing from a flat that they had previously occupied. Fear and paranoia all around and a mysterious person in a pub. You knew he was mysterious because every time you saw him dark moody music played.

Jesus! In this day and age, with that budget, they must be able to do better. It was really bad and is typical of modern British drama. Once upon a time Brit drama was clever, cutting edge and daring, whereas American TV was just toss. Now the balance has shifted.

If my brother had been killed by a 'landmine' in Afghanistan I would not then shag his wife so we could both feel better.

If our future is to be more paranoid than now it will not be because of terrorist attacks. It will be because too many dramatists think that being relevant has to involve ID cards, police states, high tech data tracking and CCTV. I can vaguely remember reading some book at school by a bloke called Orwell which was like this but considerably better.

Shame on all those lovely thesps.

Yawn.

Ummed and arred about whether to spend one on a half hours on Enemy or two and three quarter hours on Kingdom. Opted for the former. did not start watching 'til about 15 mins in as is the custom in our place as we are always engaged in the essential moving about of stuff from one part of the pad to another. Don't think I missed much.

Chances of me catching the next 4 episodes: nil. This as much to do with my incompetence than their poor program making.

I gave it another go last night. Only an hour an episode from now on which is good, as the first one went on a bit.

I don't know, I agree with what Charlie says above, it is cliched, but I enjoyed last nights episode more, and I fear I am now sucked in, as I want to know the answers to lots of questions... Problem is, I think I already know most of them, and if I am right I will be very annoyed, as I want them to go somewhere clever with this and surprise me.

I think Ashes to ashes is actually coming in to it's own. It was always going to be compared to LOM, but I really enjoyed it on Thursday. I think she is growing in confidence, and the rapport she has with Gene is fun. Have you considered The Wire? Seriously, there's an American thing called Dexter starting on ITV on Wednesday night. I've not seen it, but heard good things.

A friend of mine watched Dexter on Sky last year and said it was brilliant - a forensic scientist who is a serial killer in a vigilante sort of way!

I'm just not sure about Ashes to Ashes. I watched Thursdays too and whilst it was funny with fab lines, soundtrack and costumes, the 'crime' or 'mystery' was laughably bad, in a bad way! so I will give it another go but with mixed feelings.

I already saw Dexter when it was on SFX and it is fab. definietly worth a go.

I have the wire box set coming soon on lovefilm as so many folk have recommended it.

Jury definitely out! I did enjoy it, but too early to really comment on how good it is. Even The Wire wasn't a great show after the first episode ;-) I was also desperate to sleep at the time, so don't think I was giving it full attention. Like the 6ft under guy in the lead role though.

I agree, not sure what to make of it yet. Wassisname is pretty good considering he's essentially been given an impossible role.

"Ok, you're an emotionless psychopath who has the knack of charming people, but you have to show the audience that your soul is empty, but err...make them like you enough to care"

Good to see people trying something a bit out there, but not sure that the premise is actually workable without them breaking their ground rules.

Anyway, definitely intrigued enough to give it a few more episodes.

Anyone watching Reaper? I have to say I'm really enjoying it. The Wire it ain't, but man cannot live on bread alone.

    • Most churches rent out halls for children's' parties but rarely adult parties, Christ Church only does afternoon parties,   The East Dulwich Community centre hires out halls to 9 pm only and all music needs to be on a sound restrictor as is in a residential area. St Johns with St Clements have a small hall but not sure if they allow adult parties. Nunhead Green has a newish community centre with a couple of different size halls. Most places seem to charge around £40 ph  with a deposit of £100/200 (returned if no damage or excess cleaning needed.
    • Hello, Recently there have been various comments made on the forum which have resulted in heated discussions being had. I for one, hold up my hand and wanted to personally thank whoever is keeping the forum going.. remember when it was likely to close. We are all adults and should known when it is right to continue or just ignore or if really feel it necessary comment via pm. I have had a long relationship with the forum and have bought, sold, offered advice and in deed made friends on the forum over the years. It is a public forum after all and everyone is entitled to express their opinion and is also free. I am not as tech minded as most but with the season of good will approaching and-knowing in this economic climate how many people are  struggling, I  thought it would be a lovely idea, to perhaps set up a just giving page to raise funds for a local charity who might appreciate a contribution towards their Christmas festivities… On a practical side, might just be to complicated to administer as I am sure all have charities that we support so my other thought was not me, as I am useless but to set up a just giving page and whatever monies are raised, perhaps contribute to the festivities that use to be run by local shops or whatever.. Maybe even use a local church hall and just make it special for perhaps folk that find it difficult to access events or no access for say wheel chair users.. guess really, one is looking for guidance from the church and of course volunteers. Shoot me down if you must or feel the need but this is my view and no, sadly I won’t be around in the months before Christmas but can help remotely.
