If we're talking actual fear, then not much. Haven't had that spine-creeping, hair-up, "shitting-hell what was that" feeling for a long time.

As a boy, when I was about 11 (so not tiny by any means) my family spent one half term holiday in a rental house. The holiday coincided with Halloween. The weather was terrible and we spent most of our time in the one room with any heat, a sitting room with fire. The rest of the house was properly freezing, with dark wood panelling on the walls, and stone stairs that had a half landing with a lead-framed window above the landing.

You had to go upstairs for a piss, turning on the half-landing under the window. I left the sitting room after tea, about 6pm, stepping out from the warmth to the cold, from light to dark. I stood at the bottom of the stairs and I knew, just knew, that if I went up those stairs then something really, really terrible would happen. Not necessarily even to me, but just a sense that I was being told very strongly *not* to go up the stairs. There was no way on f*cking earth I would have gone up those stairs on my own that night.

Stupid: of course there was nothing there and my fear was self-induced, but it *felt* real. When the kids ask me to turn lights on now and go ahead of them etc, the temptation is to tell them not to be so fecking stupid, but I get it - the tricks the mind plays and how, at the moment, this stuff is real.

I shit on zombies, though.

Lol.

I don't really have many fears but I'm scared of the politicians turning the clock back and allowing the elite to once more become feudal overlords, but with bigger weapons and better intelligence.

The only other thing I'm scared of is climate change and surviving after the oil runs out.

Give me zombies, vampires, hood rats all day long, it's bigger stuff that scares me.

In Edinburgh airport's passenger security hall there is a life size cardboard cut out of a woman in a BAA uniform and where her mouth is they have some kind of mouth shaped video screen of moving lips trying to tell you something. You can hear a disembodied voice that doesn't sync with her flashing video lips whilst her eyes and nose and cheeks are frozen in cardboard. The overall effect is terrifying.

Edit: I've been getting the train lately.

Does she come with real hair?..

"the Internet scares me a bit. So many stoopid people just regurgitating stuff they know sweet FA about. Sort of democratic but at the same time depressing. "

Isn't it the people who scare you then rather than the internet?

It's a bit like local businesses who blame the forum for bad worth of mouth spreading, instead of realising they have a chance to listen to the local population. They don't have to like what they hear and what they hear may well be stooopid, but it's still who they need to listen to if they want to adapt

C'mon that's unfair. We do our best with limited resources.

In the last 24 hours I have discovered that a bloke who I knew through a friend in Australia has basically become a borderline neo nazi conspirect theorist. He presents stuff from the internet as proof of the Zionest Worl Order's plan to wipe us all out and take over the world, and he can not be reasoned with. Of course it is HIM who has been led to believe this shite, but it is the internet that allows this shite to be circulated so that idiots who are looking for someone to blame for their crappy life can latch on to it.

When I first started seeing his 9/11 conspirecies popping up, I thought it was quite funny and harmless, but it has quickly esculated in to something that frankly I find dangerous. That can be blamed at least partially on the internet.

    • https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.
    • Hi there  We live on Woodwarde Road backing on to Alleyns Top Field.  Our cat Gigi has gone missing — it’s been about 24 hours now. She is a cream Bengal. Could you please check sheds, garages, or anywhere she might have got stuck please? And if you could keep an eye out or share on any local groups/forums, we’d really appreciate it. Photo attached.   Thanks so much! My name is Jeff on 07956 910068.
    • Colin.    One for the old school.   Just saying.
