I think they thought given she had to be hospitalized that it would get out anyway and wanted to maintain some control over the news by announcing it themselves. That seemed to be the explanation on the BBC.

One of my friends too, and it is very debilitating. At least she had no post-baby weight to lose but that's not very comforting at the time.

I stand corrected.

As a young couple expecting a baby, I wish them well and hope everything turns out OK.

But that doesn't mean I'm remotely interested in the royals. In fact I find their resurgent popularity rather baffling.

Should have added I wish the couple well and am pleased for them (as I would be for anyone in similar circumstances). They seem like nice people which is why people like them. Its really not that complicated.
