I'm waiting for my local Zawi Megastore (for it is no longer virgin) to drop it in price a bit, but it's definitely on my list.

Of late Neko Case hasn't wandered far from my cd player, and got the last Decemberists album which is great fun, especially the 12 minute early genesis/floyd/deep purpleesque 3 part song The Island-The Landlord's daughter-You'll Not Fear the Drowning

Songs from the City was a great album and so is White Chalk. It's definitely one of her best if not the best thing she has done. It's a lot quieter, mostly piano led with acoustic accompaniment, no shrieking vocals, or heavy bass or slashing guitars, she sounds almost childlike and ethereal. It's only 35 minutes long and it gets better with each listen. I can't recommend it highly enough. Superb!

I'm loving Keef's synopsis - it's how I have felt for years but been rubbished everytime I say it. I do like Street Spirit as well mind you...

Street Spirit is a good song, and I almost mentioned it in my post, but it's very much on the moaning depressing side of things, and that's one of my big issues with them.

I did like that video they did where he was in a giant "Operation" game.

Also loved that Father Ted episode where another priest who was reallt depressed stayed with them. Ted and Dougal cheered him up and sent him on his way, The episode ended with him getting on a bus looking all contented, and the redio DJ announcing "here's the new one from Radiohead" (or something like that). Radiohead music starts, priest's smile cracks, priest ends up wailing. >:D<

Anyway, at the moment I'm liking Gossip. Although they're much better live, the album sounds like a 4 track demo... Which maybe it is...

Also liking Kate Nash's album more and more, but her extra cockney thing still jars me each time.

The Nash album feels somewhat rushed, half those songs really shouldn't have made it on there, like the appropriately named "sh!t song", but I still like it (and she's sooo cute).

But she seems really down to earth that she's a bit of fresh air after the antics of the ever tedious behatted ones amy and pete "please please do us a favour and overdose" doherty.

Yeah the mockney thing does jar a bit, but who am I to criticise innit?

My conclusions on Radiohead are that the critics will probably rave about it, but I doubt I'll be playing it again, and there's nothing on there that you and dems will be playing at open mic any time soon.

There are some sh!t songs, but also some great ones. Foundations is really good, as is skeletons.

The reviewer above clearly doesn't have much time for them either "I always smelt a rat; for a start, if you wear a Ramones t-shirt but you sound like all your guitars have been turned down to 3, you?re probably not as punk as you?d like to think you are. This shower, heaven help us, weren?t even that pop...2/10"

For my part I recently got Kate Rusby's last one, well produced folk, does what it says on the tin, interpol's last album, more of the same but it still works, and keenly await Neko Case's Blacklisted.

I've got a copy. Plant's vocals are very low key and it's a bit more country than even I'm partial too, but actually surprisingly beautiful.

anyway...Immaculate Machines. Random purchase today in second hand shop. Loved the artwork, strings in the sleeve notes, liked the song titles such as Jarhand, Nothing Ever Happens and C'Mon Sea Legs, so bought it.

Turns out the female vocalist's side project is The New Pornographers.

Upbeat, clever, catchy laden with hooks. Nice!!!

Ooh and found 2 old smog albums too...hurrah!!

just got my 'Legacy' version of Prefab Sprout's Steve McQueen. The 8-track bonus CD is stunning - Paddy McAloon's re-recorded 8 of the songs in unplugged-stylee, and his voice is even better than twenty years ago.

So great to hear him do justice to these great songs after all these years.

Sooooo Album(s) of 2007?

Some great stuff this year, Laura Viers, Kevin Drew, New Pornographers, Stars, Panda Bear, Animal Collective, Tiger Force, Silent League, Deerhoof, The Decemberists, Robert Plant/Alison Krauss, Fiery Furnaces, Taken by Trees, Feist...the list goes on.

But boils down to one of Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha, Tinariwen - Aman Iman and Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood.

I don't want to choose, my instinct says Bird, my head says Tinariwen but I'll go with my heart which seems to belong to Ms Case.
