Are sun kil moon worth a listen then? I heard their Modest Mouse cover album and ran a mile, but perhaps I was being unfair on them.

Am currently ripping all my collection to FLAC in readiness for my DAC to appear (hopefully today) for my set up in my new home office, so really just listening to whatever passes through.

But have really enjoyed M?m and Notwist, neither of which had I heard for a while.

Of recently bought, I seem to have leant towards easy electropop, with Chvrches and Marnie (the pretty lilting scottish one from Ladytron).

I think Sun Kil Moon are excellent. Their 2008 album 'April' and their latest 'Benji' are both terrific. 'Benji' is probably the best thing i've heard this year so far.

I've also been going back to Nick Cave a lot recently; for some reason it always surprises me just how good his back catalogue is. Been giving a lot of time to 'Tender Prey', 'Murder Ballads', 'No More Shall We Part' and 'Boatman's Call'.

This might get snorky out of his slumber, but No More Shall We Part is an almost faultless album!!

I'll give Benji a quick spotify then, see if they can redeem themselves after the horror of Tiny Cities. I liked the Red House Painters, so something should gel.

I liked her first album, but not given her much attention since- agreed that she's good live though. I saw her supporting Grizzly Bear (with LSO) at the Barbican a few years back. That Grizzly Bear gig was one of the best i've ever seen.

I gave her new one a couple of runs through but it didn't grab me at all. I shall revisit.

Yes! This.

If you've never seen them live then you must. A Slide-In at the Queen's Head is something to behold. For me the best band to come out of England in the last 20 years. The album is also a corker. I love 'em.

They're off to the SXSW Festival next week in Austin, Texas so when they get back I'll sort out a gig we can go to. Mind you, don't think they'll be doing the Tulse Hill Tavern or the Queen's Head anymore now unless it's hush hush as they're getting quite a bit of press and airplay now and the gigs are rammed to the rafters now the trendies have latched onto them.

    • If someone comes to my house and bangs my door and slams my gate, I'd speak to them about it nicely and ask if they would please not do that. And then subsequently less nicely if they keep doing it, ending in reporting them.  We don't slam doors at home and I don't put up with that either. I can see us moving to a culture where we bribe drivers to be nice by tipping them, but we shouldn't have to. It's not necessary - does not matter if they are on minimum wage or not, or if society means that delivery services are outsourced or whatever reason anyone would like to concoct.
    • We’ve got a gap on the roof of our shed that needs patching  don’t want to buy a huge roll so hoping someone has some leftover  happy to collect/reimburse
    • I never said I thought it was targeted or deliberate. There also has never been a “stand off” or confrontation, we’ve spoken to them in a friendly manner about it. Our experience is they don’t seem to care. That’s the frustrating thing for us, if someone politely raises a concern at least take a second to reflect. Treat others how you would want to be treated.  I don’t want them to lose their job, far from it. But considering it could cost me a days work to fix any damage, I’m within my right to try prevent it.
    • The SE22 Evri delivery family are lovely, and always say hello wherever we spot them in the area. We gave them a box of chocolates during Covid as they were working their socks off at Christmas
