I notice from a comment by Alan Dale that it's re-opened.

Has anyone been, has it changed a lot, what sort of music are they playing, is it still full of seedy w@nkers, how much is it to get in????

Had some classic nights in there in the early 000s, but then it got really sh!t!

Don't the same people also own The Living room (or just Living these days I think) in Brixton as well as Dogstar?

I will never forget watching my drunk friend Rob stumble towards the toilets in the Redstar and laughing as he chose to go through the door marked with a massive W rather than opting for the one next door marked M, only to come out a minute later red faced and a rather shocked look on his face.. I am with you Keef, I have some great memories of this place too, but wonder if they should stay as such, and not fog them with future visits. It was a great place in its day.

yes it did - proper old school Blue Oyster style - wandered in inadvertently one night as it was the only place still open to get a drink. my two male friends had to kiss each other to prove they were gay so we could get in. I've never seen anything more chaste, and clearly neither had the bouncers, but they let us in anyway, out of pity I think

I got dragged in there by a gay friend of mine on her 21st, not realising what it was like. I was only about 16-17, and after seeing a bloke in tight leather doing kareoke to Rick Astley, I decided it was time to head home! Scary stuff, and as RosieH says, it was indeed Blue Oyster style!

I spent most of the late 90s/early naughties wandering up their with a bunch of SE5ers pissed after the Snug/Pacific/Babooshka closed....they'd let us in on Tuesday, Wed, Thursday but suddenly the same bouncers who we knew would be all "Sorry lads" on Friday night. There was also the black lady bouncer who for some completley unknown reason detested my girlfriend (now missus) plus we used to scroounge tickets of Mr Brights the stationer on Denmark Hill who was always in there plus the mad Wednesday(?) breakdancing night....stream of conscious of the old Redstar.....also rememberthe FRC when it was staright, but refused entry very pissed one night when it was gay

    • The eyesore is left, right and elsewhere of said box.😉
    • I don't think you are miserable; the fireworks 'thing' seems to be growing. It used to be that you knew when they would likely happen and they were relatively rare, two or three times a year, for just one evening each time. Now, not only do there seem to be more and more large organised events, with extremely loud fireworks, even making Halloween a must do fireworks date- but people just seem to randomly let off four or five really loud ones at odd times of the night, for around 6 months of the year. Given the environmental impact, I'd have thought the council might want to encourage use of low noise fireworks at large events. I really, really hope something can be done.
    • Would this not be a complaint better aimed at the council? Isn't it an anti social behaviour issue?  I think of myself as pretty live-and-let-live and feel like a miserable cow for saying this, but I do think I might complain. Personally I love the sound of fireworks but our dog is under the table, shaking like a leaf night after night and collapses in the street when he hears the noise.  I'm worried his heart'll give out.
    • The lower / no bang noise fireworks sound great.    Is there anywhere local selling those?
