Great choice Piers. Always a winner with me.


This was the track used at this year's Labour conference. Now it may be lyrically suspect but WHAT a tune! And to think we had to put up with D-Ream:

JOAN BAEZ - I don't know much about her, other than she once shacked up with Bob Dylan. So she's probably quite folky then. I've been sent tickets for her gig tomorrow night (Thursday 2nd) at the Royal Albert Hall. They are really lovely stalls seats and I don't want them to go to waste. If anyone would like to go and can collect the tickets from me tonight in LL then please PM me and you can have them with my compliments.

TALKING HEADS anyone? Not really, but David Byrne with a promise to do all the Talking Heads hits. So what's not to like? Playing two nights at the Festival Hall next April and on sale tomorrow. I'm a member at the RFH so I bought my tickets this morning. Ticket sales just to members have been substantial - so if you want to go get on the phone tomorrow and book it. The RFH still takes returns so if can't plan this far ahead then book it anyway - if you can't go you can still get a refund.

Rather confused by the category "Folk / Acoustic / Japanese Pop" on myspace?!?

Are Fleet Foxes like that? I see their albums on the cheap in Fopp all the time Might have to give them a go.

      If it was limited to a couple of days a year, so we all knew, that would be fine. In the last few years (and it is a recent thing) you get random fireworks going off any time after dusk for half the year. It does more than cause problems for pets and wildlife- it can mean lasting damage and massive expense and hassle for pet owners. All because some get a buzz out of loud bangs.

      Ohh dear.  Fireworks can be great fun.  Where I used to live the kids would have firework wars/games.  Watching them was more enjoyable than watching  TV. (Which you could hardly hear due to the pops and bangs).  It's not like anyone/anything could stop them. I would still prefer organised public displays that are affordable.   And I agree that fireworks cause problems for wild life, pets and people.   It seems to be one of those things that just happens so we have to put up with it.  But it is still not as problematic here as in other areas in London - that's for sure.
