Yeah I know. It was one of the Wailers first EPs. It always takes me back to deeply stoned days on beaches in the Transkei listening to an old ratafarian's clapped out tape player.

I quite enjoyed the Bosstones take on it though. They are one of those bands that always show little respectful Homages to their roots in their videos and songs. Like this one

Which is a bit specials or is that just madness?

Is it just me or are The Pogues getting more Christmassy than turkey and tinsel?

How many nights at Brixton did they do last year? Did anyone from the forum go? Is there a view as to whether they might add the Saturday night? I would quite like to go but would prefer the Saturday.

Couldn't say it better myself, it's just I've done 2004, 2005 (the best I've seen), was in Australia for '06, did 2007 (the row night), so think I'll wait til next year now... Plus I'm at Brixton for Biffy Clyro that same week, and I can't be arsed going twice.

OK now I'm about to expose my mean streak. Here's a news story that made me pee myself laughing this week.

Basically a nobody band at Reading called the FFs got mistaken for the Foo Fighters. Yeah right. The Foos are so gonna cut short a US tour and pay air-fare just to play a tiny nothing stage at Reading. So a crowd of about 3,000 showed up all dizzy with anticipation and on came the poor old FFs to a very mean reception. Well that was so gonna happen. But here's where it gets freaky. After bottling off the FFs, the crowd actually hung around for the next band and bottled them off as well. For the love of God why would they do that? Was it a slow day? In my mind's eye I'm seeing the scene from the Life of Brian when Brian gets followed home and abused by his "followers". I'm sorry but that really cracks me up (I told you I had a mean streak).

The funniest thing of all (for me) is that my friend Paul actually used the C word and called them all a bunch of mean-spirited Cs. My friend Paul NEVER uses that word so that alone sets me off and just the memory of it made me laugh out loud on the 176 this morning.

Finally, if you believe the NME report, shoes were thrown at the stage. How freakin pissed off/stoned do you need to be to throw your shoes at someone and spend the rest of the day barefoot?

    • Missing Cat! 11 months old/ Our friend, Coco, has gone missing. Last seen evening of 31st October near top of Henslowe rd where it meets Underhill Rd in SE22. We know she has started wandering up Friern Rd and further we guess but we imagine she has been spooked by Halloween / Fireworks goings on. She is a grey Siberian mix with some brown stripes down her, very friendly and likes to eat. Please let us know
    • That said, organised displays could be on Saturday before and after and the actual day, and private ones could just not have the loud ones.  It’s all down to accessibility and people caring/not caring
    • The problem this year is that 5th November falls on a Wednesday. So some places will be bringing their "bonfire night" forward to Saturday 1st and some will be knocking it back to Saturday 8th and there'll probably be a few that just go with Wednesday 5th anyway. If you're doing a public display, having it on a weekend gets more crowds. Which basically means a solid week of fireworks.
    • Fireworks in this area do feel totally incessant at this time of year, almost every evening there is terrible noise. I feel great concern for wildlife, pets (I have a senior cat who hates them), as well as people who struggle with PTSD etc. Last year I even had people setting them off in front of my home. Tonight and yesterday evening have been particularly bad. Is there anything we can do as a community to prevent this? What action can we take? Surely we shouldn’t be expected to just put up with it every year for weeks on end!
