Did you vote in the Local Elections?

We?ve now had three visits from Labour, two from Lib Dems and two from conservatives. And lots of leaflets from all three, plus one leaflet from One Dulwich suggesting we vote based on local issues (didn?t have to convince me of that!). In DV ward - presumably regarded as a potential gain/ loss by all three parties.

This is why I was asking specifically about Goose Green Ward. I know that the lib dems are actively campaigning Dulwich Village. They are out meeting people and trying to put their case forward.

Its the strange situation in Goose Green I'm talking about where there has been no canvassing by anyone except labour and the lib Dem candidates are people i couldn't pick out of a line out - whereas normally by this point there would have been leaflets landing on my doormat with their faces on for the last month.

In Dulwich Wood I've had more leaflets from the two anti-LTN organisations over the last couple of weeks than from Labour.

LP has help every local election from Momentum who come in en masse from other local areas to help canvas/leaflet. Only one LP Goose Green councillor has ever knocked on my door.

Councillors in office have protected time off.... candidates standing who are school teachers, charity workers and risk managers do not. Don't knock people who stand for office and care about community - whatever party they are standing for, it is a public service and should be applauded.

You should watch the Herne Hill Hustings.. it covers Dulwich issues and Lambeth border. The arrogance of the Lambeth LP candidate and the obfuscation and 'telling the audience that Southwark Labour knows best' from the Southwark LP candidate was painful for me as a life-long LP supporter. Green Southwark guy seemed to listen and respond well. The sound is a bit mad at the beginning but settles down.

At one point, trying to quell a baying, pro-LTN contingent, Labour?s Herne Hill Councillor, and Deputy Lambeth Mayor Pauline George, said: ?It?s for your own good! Climate emergency people! Your happiness is our joy!?.

Parts of Herne Hill are run by Southwark but a large part is run by Lambeth Council.

Liberal Democrat candidate for Dulwich Village, Richard Wingfield said her words ?sent a chill down my spine? adding: ?It?s not for the council to tell you how to live your lives.?

I live on the outskirts of Dulwich Village (12 minutes walk away according to the local popular schools) and am really surprised that the Conservative party candidates (Clive and Tristan) have not been active in the area, even though I will be voting for them in the local elections next Thursday.

A Labour leaflet was shoved in my letterbox last night even though I was indoors but was probably a local delivery firm.

Also had a Dulwich Alliance leaflet delivered today which sets out why I will be voting locally for the Conservative Party.

Sorry, you can not fully divorce national and local politics. In the 00s Labour took a big hit at a local level due to Gulf war 2 with Lib Dems in London doing well. If the slippery one can look at local elections and see to have done well due to the reaction to the initiative that his government introduced you will need to take a long hard look at yourself. Obviously there will be those pleased with the Torries for sleeze, lies, care home deaths, energy policy, not fully getting Brexit done and gesture politics. Are you one of these people?

I have no trouble divorcing local and national politics, and will also be voting conservative locally* but def not for Boris? crew nationally when the time comes. It?s the only way to get any semblance of accountability back into local government. People voting for councillors on the basis of national politics seems to me to be precisely what has gone wrong with the system.

And let?s face it, one historically Tory ward turning blue again isn?t going to send much of a message to Conservative HQ. Southwark council as a whole will undoubtedly stay in Labour control (although I do think there?ll be a swing away from Labour given the situation with council housing developments, Southwark repair service etc.)

*having just watched the hustings I was pretty impressed with Richard Wingfield but from speaking to others locally the general consensus seems to be to vote Conservative in DV to avoid splitting the ?vote for change?. I did like the socialist candidate at the end who remarked on Lambeth?s significant ?rainy day? reserves and declared that ?it?s pi$$ing down?.

So in summary - whilst there have been lots of lib dem leaflets in Dulwich Village (legalalien, rockets, hammerman) and a bit in Dulwich Hill and virtually nothing in Goose Green.

CPR Dave and Singalto have had one leaflet, none of my neighbours in goose green ward have had any. Confirms my understanding that whilst the Lib Dems want to have a full ticket in all wards, that they're not really standing credible candidates here who actually want the role.

It's really interesting as Labour are trying to make this election about everything bar local issues (today we had a flyer saying a vote for a Labour is a vote against government X,Y,Z) whilst the Tories and Lib Dems are desperately trying to make it about local policies because one party are hated at national level and the other not trusted at national level (delete as applicable).

I very much suspect local issues will be at the heart of most voting intentions next week.

Labour playing dirty in Village Ward as they're now leafleting about a LD candidate living in Streatham.

It shows the rival parties are eating into Labour's vote.

Had a very generic Labour one this morning that didn?t mention any local issues at all ,focus on the general cost of living crisis and central govt. do you mean one of the village ward candidates lives in streatham, or is it a leaflet about someone unrelated?
