macroban
Is this young woman in any sense qualified to be the BBC Economics Editor, or is she just a daddy's girl? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3073-stephanie-flanders/ Share on other sites

dc
macroban Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Is this young woman in any sense qualified to be> the BBC Economics Editor, or is she just a daddy's> girl?A slightly unfortunate reference given that I believe her father died when she was very young but I'm sure everyone knows what you mean. She might present a visual distraction for some but if that's the case just close your eyes and think of Engels etc (boom boom) - she's very good at economics and at communicating so the answer to your first question is, I think, yes. Evan is quite sexy too btw and I didn't see a similar thread when he got the job. SimonM
Anyone who pisses of Richard Littlejohn cannot be all bad..."young woman"??? Not wishing to seem ungallant but Ms Flandes is 40 this year. And her dad helped write some great songs... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3073-stephanie-flanders/#findComment-95408 Share on other sites

macroban
The piano music for "Ill Wind" is in the Faber album "The Songs of Michael Flanders & Donald Swann" ISBN 978-0-571-52920-9. It's a simple piece in Eb.More appropriate for 2008 is "The Budget Song" Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3073-stephanie-flanders/#findComment-95613 Share on other sites
Michael Palaeologus
It is unfortunate that because Ms Flanders is a woman, an attractive woman, a young(ish) attractive woman and a young (ish) attractive woman who can communicate complex issues in an understandable way to the majority - she is therefore not qualified to be economics editor. She is a fine young filly with a brain and the common touch. I like her and she does a good job. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3073-stephanie-flanders/#findComment-95663 Share on other sites
ChavWivaLawDegree
Mike - you weren't on Eastenders last night where you? I swear the judge of the barmaid competition was you in a wig. Guest
I find the original posting outrageous! Did you try to find out anything about her qualifications for the role before you assumed that as she's female and presentable she can't have got it on merit? Or does your comment have something to do with her maternity leave? This 'young woman' is FORTY, went to Oxford and Harvard, worked as an economist at the London Business School, FT leader writer and columnist for 15 years, has worked for a number of years on Panorama, Newsnight... Guest
Before anyone tells me off, sorry for overreacting, but, as you probably spotted, I find this kind of thing really frustrating. HonaloochieB
So she's highly qualified and her father was part of a classic comedy duo.If she gets her round in, she's damn near perfect. Guest
Hard to imagine how having a comedy songwriter father who died when she was five may have swung a senior job at the BBC for her. (See, still exasperated despite a good night's sleep.)
