Hope some budding restaurateurs (is that how you spell it?) are listening!

I know there are 'Japanese places in Catford and over Crystal Palace way - but having tried them both they are well below standard on the food and well above on the prices. Not a good experience and not good value for money. If you're going to do Japanese food really well, you need to have (at least one) real Japanese chef. (Sorry all you Chinese people doing Japanese food - you're lovely, but the food sucks.)

I think Pham Sushi on Whitecross Street, Clerkenwell is a great example of a 'neighbourhood' Japanese restaurant, great food, down to earth decor but smart enough (not trying to be trendy) and reasonably affordable mid-market prices (circa ?18 per head for starters, mains and desert with green tea and water - though if you choose your dishes you can eat well for less).

Bring it on!

Well Ubon's a mere stones throw away *ahem* on the isle of dogs.

A tad* pricey, but magnificent views, great sushi and service and the black cod, simply stunning!!

Pham Sushi is the best ever! I always order from there when working late (2 mins from work) and adore their crunchy tuna rolls.

Went to Ubon - food tophole but was in a mood with the husband as I thought we were going to Nobu!!! (Of Boris Becker cupboard fame).

Sulked until husband finally took me to Nobu - saw Ant&Dec, bald Little Britain guy and sat next to George Lucas!!! (No Boris Becker alas).

What is the Fujiyama delivery sushi like - any good?! (Cheaper than Ubon andNobu!)

Ha ha, very funny.

I specifically chose ubon over nobu because the food's identical (it's a very posh chain after all), it's about thruppence ha'penny cheaper and it's not a haven for jumped-up egomaniac z list 'celebrities', but then I tend toward misanthropic at the best of times!

I trust you attacked George Lucas with chopsticks in his eyes for his hideous betrayal of my childhood.

I liked Wagamamas when it first opened, but over the years it's got pricier and the servings smaller and the quality has dropped a tad (god, i'm sounding like snorky). Like a maccy d's it can still be the right place at the right time occasionally.

I go to a fantastic little Vietnamese place in Camden on Parkway about a minute's walk from the wagamama's outside my office door and its far far superior and alot cheaper.

If this sort of thing's your bag though, locally I highly recommend Buddha Jazz on Grove Lane too.

Trust me Mockney, I had to be physically restrained from plonking myself at his table, having a swig of his sake and demanding to know what possessed him to ruin my Star Wars forever!! I was hustled away by the elbow to avoid a scene!

And why don't we get a Yo Sushi and a Wagagmama!? ;-) heh heh!

I am a sushi beast

Yo sushi is referred to as "Malayusian sushi" by the Japanese - thats not entirely complimentary

Wagamama is OK as japanses ish fast food, but is just another themed noodle bar really

EDO in Crystal palace is OK, but not japanese - Its Thai run ( my mistake !!!)

Fujiyama in Brix is good quaklity ramen/noodles/japanses sytle carbo bulk , but avoid the sushi - it also delivers to ED - not cheap tho'

    • I think Watsons General Telegraph do two margaritas  for £13 every Thursday. The Great Exhibition also does a margarita deal on a Thursday: https://www.greatexhibition.pub/new-events-1 I've not tried either deal yet.
    • We first used Aaron's services for a badly damaged wall that had gone back to the brickwork due to water ingress from the bay window. We found Aaron initially through recommendation and were very fortunate to do so as we already had a couple of quotes from trades found online that were just ridiculous, clearly just a rip off, so not sure what we would of done without that recommendation. We have just had more work completed by him, two walls skimmed and more comprehensive work where the brickwork was exposed around the fireplace. The wall above the fireplace was the original plaster finish and in good condition but the original plan was to have the whole wall replastered but we couldnt get the tv off the wall bracket so asked Aaron if he could just plaster up to the tv, not ideal but not much choice. Aaron didnt have any issue with that atall and more than happy to do it. Amazingly the join between the new plaster and old plaster is invisible. Perfect feather edge finish.  Aaron is very pleasant natured, he turns up on time, he doesnt mess about and gets on with the job. He works in a very clean manner. He doesnt try and inflate the job to make it more expensive. We found him to be extremely competitively priced. Both jobs have been finished to an excellent standard. The finish is so smooth its like glass. We will certainly be using his services again in the future.     Aaron Manser 07773 410661
    • Yes, and now there's a leak further down Barry Road. Two men from Thames came and stood there looking at it and then went away. Over 24 hours later water still pouring out and no sign of any action to repair
