Much as people will claim otherwise (particularly Liverpool fans with Paisley), it's hard to argue that SAF is the greatest manager ever because he was still able to build new teams right to the end.

Thats pretty much it. I guess in theory he didnt win enough European Cups but its been a more difficlt format thatn in the Paisley years, so I give the nod to Sir Alex.

Mick Mac has it. In the old days, you'd meet teams like Grasshoppers in the semifinal. Having to compete against the one champion from every single country is much easier than competing against the four top teams of the strongest countries.

you still have all the champions in the competition you know- just there's many more games, and groups to get out of (and a liverpool fan should know that league format is tougher than cup format- you have to be consistently good to win it now)

not saying he isnt a great manager or slagging the job he did, but the timing and appintment was almost perfectly positioned- either luck or planning, I dunno.

All the rumours are Moyes but I think he'd struggle. Maybe that's the idea so whoever takes over when Moyes is sacked after one season doesn't have SAF to live up to. Klopp anyone?

Personally I'd like to see an OB like Sparky do it - love to see how he'd manage to get them into the bottom three and up for relegation despite their riches etc.

crikey woody, that's a bit harsh on the guy. He has wound me up many times over the years but you could take the exact same circumstances and put ANYONE else in at that exact same time and there isn't a hope in hell they would have achieved what SAF has.
