One christmas, I pressed my cold, snotty nose up against the steamed up windows of Pauls on Pall Mall and gazed upon the sleek well fed clientle enjoying its succulent offerings. a short omnibus ride later, I was enjoying tepid eels and mash in SE15. I know where I would sooner eat.

Now ease up StraferJ, I reckon Dd is just having a bit of an off day is all.

Over 60% of his/her posts show a gift for trenchant observation concerning the local scene and pinpoint satire about some building with old stuff in it.

I reckon Dd's gotten all hyperbolic 'cause of too much coffee and will appreciate the irony of the caffine (sic) theme park notion when the jitters subside.

Right with you Woodie, in betwixt the two, and it falls twixt 'em is Rock Steady Eddies Camberwell caff, that'd be the spot.

Though I've not been there for a two-stretch or thereabouts (The reason? I recall a cold wintry interlude, a faulty door which allowed gusty ingress and my Dobie Gray-like propensity for drifting away). However I'll renew my acquaintance with Sol et al and let you know if the double sausage, double egg and chips is still as plentiful and qualitous as I was accustomed to, the tea as teeth-coating tanniny as before and the bottled Fanta the few degrees above room temperature it needs to be to accompany the scran while the builders' cools a little.

If not tomorrow then Friday.

Stand on me.

    • Recently used Andy Roscoe at Meabys. Have used Meabys a number of times over the years as have my parents and have always been good. Efficient, pragmatic and responsive. Not the cheapest but as everyone has said above it can be a false economy.
    • It's worth paying for someone who is properly qualified in my opinion. We did when we bought, but unfortunately the people selling to us had used some sort of mass conveyancing centre in Wales to save a few quid and they were rubbish. When I looked into selling our place I asked the estate agent who came to value it whether we could stipulate that a future buyer should use a proper conveyancer. They reckoned yes, so something you might consider asking for from your buyer if not too late. I guess it depends on demand, if there's a queue of buyers you're in a different place to make demands versus someone's been trying to sell their place for a year. I've used Wendy Burgess several times, it seems she's recently moved to a different practice: https://www.hcnlaw.co.uk/attorney/wendy-burgess/
    • Following on from Sue's post, this document looks useful as a single information source about the continuation of the Poundland brand:   https://www.pepcogroup.eu/media-news/pepco-group-completes-sale-of-poundland/.  From it I get that Pepco, the pre-sale parent company of Poundland, will have a minority share in the business (the CH record for the acquiring company seems to me consistent with that) and that "Under this new ownership, the business will be led by Barry Williams, currently Managing Director of Poundland. The business will continue to operate under the Poundland brand in the United Kingdom (and under the Dealz brand in the Isle of Man and Republic of Ireland)."
