Hilly Fields Park water is up and running in the playground. There is sand play also and a cafe at the top of the Park.

Plus Ladywell Fields has a small stream running through it, which is a really nice natural play area. The stream is a dogleg of the Ravensbourne River running behind Lewisham Hospital. There's also a cafe, mini-skatepart (smallest ramp suitable for ~3yo on scooter), and two playgrounds.

Went to myatts field today and there was a sign up saying it was broken but actually it did come on every 20 minutes to the sound of massive cheering and frenzied jumping in the water from all the children...the sign said it would be fully working tomorrow but I am only reporting what the sign said, wouldnt vouch for it!

Boooo! It was on earlier. Hope it's not the same problem as before. I heard they had to specially order a part from Germany (although I don't know why that should take all summer... thought maybe Lewisham was just too cheap to turn on the water last year!)

Is Sydenham Wells park doable on public transport?

We went to Burgess Park this morning. They have water fountains outside the under fives playground off Albany Road. It was great, not crowded at all. Probably not enough for older children as the jets weren't very high but perfect for toddlers. The cafe is nice too and has good children's pasta and toasted sandwiches. There is a small car park but we went on the bus and walked from Walworth Road.

We take the 363 from Peckham Rye when we go to Sydenham Wells, can't quite remember the stop where we jump off (Wells Park Road?), but then it's only 10 minute walk down to the park.

No cafe, so a picnic essential.

Myatt's Fields and Brockwell Park are great, when they're on! But both can become very busy, so Sydenham Wells is nicer for being a bit more low key.

Yes you need your own supplies at Sydenham Wells but its a good play area with plenty of grass to sit down & shady places if required. I prefer it to Myatts Field from that point of view, though as the children get older its easier to position oneself a little further away & let them just 'boomerang' to check in at intervals. Best when not too busy tho!

I was at Hilly Fields on Monday, and neither the pump nor the water fountain were working. :(

Also, if anyone is going to Ladywell Fields, be aware of the road closure to through traffic in Ladywell at the bridge due to massive roads works. This is affecting the P4/122/484 bus services, although there is a free shuttle bus in place to amend the alterations to service.

    • No, you didn’t write the article. But unless you’re a Telegraph subscriber, you haven’t read the article either. Have you read it? The psychopath Telegraph lives behind a (rubber) paywall but using this kind of sensationalist, accusatory headline gets it traction on social media. The headline becomes more important than the article; many will see it and some will take it as a statement of fact. And it will be shown on endless “let’s take a look at the papers” segments on TV and radio for 12 hours or more in every news day. And so, a tiny number of reactionary, right wing hacks has a vastly disproportionate influence on the popular conversation despite the papers they work for being bought by almost nobody these days.
    • Trelco are wonderful. James has been super reliable and they are a gem to have around us locally. Trust them completely, will give honest advice and have very fair pricing for all small work around the house or bigger plumbing projects. I've used them multiple times and they will always find the time to help, even when they are busy they will pop round to make sure we aren't stranded which is a nice touch.
    • "attack on the tax", I posted a link, how was that an attack? I didn't write the article, so how was that an attack on the proposed tax?  Are you now saying what can and cannot be posted, when did you become Admin(NOT).
