I would assume the houses would have originally been lodgings for the park keeper and staff, but I am not 100% certain.

You might like to invest in "Dulwich Park: A park for the people for ever", by Liz Johnson - which I imagine a certain seedy-looking but joyfully non-chain SE22 bookshop may still have. Or if not there, 1 of the village shops.

It was bitterly cold in the park yesterday - only a few hardy souls at the kids playground and a solitary yellow Dulwih Recumbents trike. Amazingly one flurorescent pink rhododenfron is in flower though! And they were sweeping the loose pebbles off the paths at last!

SimonM (who uses the Fireman's Alley gate!)

Fireman's Alley runs between Lordship Lane and the South Circular, yes. It's between the BT place (automated telephone exchange??) and blocks of flats. I believe there was actually a fire station where the telephone exchange now is once upon a time. I think the gates all open/close in sequence at roughly the same times of day but cannot say this for certain.

    • There  is a dance fit class at Harris girls on a Monday evening 630 pm which I have been going to for years . It is an inclusive class  with a wide range of ages.    The  teacher is Fi and she is amazing and  the classes are lots of fun.   look on the web justdanceuk .com. There are other dance classes  (flowetic )that Fi and the lovely Lizzie runs  at Harris girls too . They also have an event next week which is a bit further- near Penge  which is a day of dance to include  just dance fit, dancehall, line dancing, garage fit and flowetic . Which is also available to book on that website  ( look at the events section) .
    • that’s just been misused first by Faraz and then Starmer. It’s evocative and negative.  But it’s flooding the news today.
    • I didn't realise that either! I thought it just meant division within communities - religious, racial or otherwise.  Yes, it is frightening. The days of the broad church political party are over.
    • So I've done a little more research into the current use of the word, I hadn't realised it had latterly been used to describe anti Muslim feelings. Still don't like the use of the word. These are horrible times and am fearful for the future.
