Family Holiday Ideas please!

I'm looking to go away with my husband and child, who is 1 can walk etc, so active. Any ideas of where to go in England or Scotland ? I would love the sea side ! But don't know where don't want anything over crowded, was thinking alton towers or something?

we went to Falmouth one weekend which was lovely although from where we are its a 6 hour drive. we stayed in a lovely b&b right by the beach

How about renting a holiday cottage for a week? Alton towers not much to do for a 1 yr old.

I know - I don't really want to go there tbh, I don't have a car which is another huge disadvantage!

Whitsable - not far but has lovely pebble beaches and good seafood for the grown ups.

Bournemouth - great sandy beach, our then 1yr old loved it.

Hired a place in Whitstable last year with my then 1 year old. Was lovely-we didn't have a car either but did a few trips on bus to Canterbury, Herne Bay and this great place http://www.wildwoodtrust.org/ happy holidays...

Broadstairs is easily accessible from Whitstable by train for a day out too, a nice place with a sandy beach. Also, consider Margate for a day out, superficially a bit of a dump, but the art gallery does some good activities for kids and it has a small historic shopping area nearby which is quite nice.

We went to a nice cottage in the centre of Whitstable last June with a 2 year old and a 3 month old. We did not have a car either.

There was also a farm + games for children in Druidstone park ( if I have the name right) accessible by bus.
