Huguenot
Hmm, not that I'm in any position to cast aspersions, but we seem to have lost the gore and guts of 'Drink Club' with some of the proposed routes. The following map suggests that there is a route which would really make the record books...View Larger MapI can trace a sort of mirror 'N' that starts up at the Forest Hill Tavern as follows:FHTThe HerneClockhouseThe GowlettUplandsThe CastleThe PloughMagdalaFranklinsLiquorishThe DrumPalmerstonInside 72 / The Adventure Club (??)The BishopThe Black CherryEDTNTVHoopersThe George CYou could of course aim to end it at the Phoenix, but I'd hazard that Scor might be more tolerant of the EDF massive than the guys at the railway station.More than that, it really does complete the ED manor, without imposing the Peckham/Nunhead diversions. (These could be engaged with a hardcore diverting after the Clockhouse, but I think you'd then open yourself up to challenges regarding an incomplete annex of the surrounding lebensraum.)Likewise there may be those that challenge the inclusion of the Gowlett, but I feel this would be to adhere to strictly to the letter of the law, and suborn the spirit. Now I know that's 19 bars, but with a half in each, at least we have a proposition to compete with the Circle Line's 27.Apply a Saturday afternoon to this and you have a mission truly worth achieving, and a real claim to fame.Remember the third rule of Drink Club... 'Eating is Cheating'. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3491-ed-pub-crawl-26th-july/page/4/#findComment-109550 Share on other sites

Brendan
Huguenot I certainly commend the spirit behind that route. I'm sure that the exclusion of the CPT is merely an oversight. Although my envisaged approach to the afternoon and evening is more of the Kerouacian persuasion rather than the Kamikaze. Huguenot
Poldarks, yes of course. The CPT brings it of course to a round 20.*Slaps wrist*That's a tragedy I overlooked it. Too familiar of course. Heartfelt apologies Keef and Mockney.So...FHT, The Herne, Clockhouse,The Gowlett, Uplands, CPT, The Castle, The Plough, Magdala, Franklins, Liquorish, The Drum, Palmerston, Inside 72 / The Adventure Club (??), The Bishop, The Black Cherry, EDT, NTV, Hoopers, The George CanningFor those of a technical bent, this crawl is almost exactly 4 (four) miles. This is no coincidence. The Chinese word for four is 'si' (pronounced a bit like 'sur'), it sounds extremely similar to the Chinese word for death 'si' (yep, pronounced a bit like 'sur').Thus this crawl is undeniably the crawl of death; may I respectfully suggest we find an appropriate name? I could volunteer:The MorticianThe TerminatorI'm in ED on the 17th August if anyone fancies having a serious crack (or should that be craic) at it? We could name the day 'Dia de los Muertos' in anticipation? How exciting! Huguenot
But yes, Brendan, you're right. We're all too old for this kind of thing now.May be a Campari followed by a risky Vermouth is order of the day. At least that way I'll live to see another...PS MP, yep, back on the consultancy stuff, and working from home is such a bore, even in Singers! Keef
I'd be up for having a serious crack at it, and I agree that eating it cheating! (until the kebab at the end of the night)And frankly, it you're doing halves, then it shouldn't be too bad, 10 pints spread over an afternoon / evening, with walks in between, should be fine. Brendan
Yeah but if you do about 8 pubs you can have a proper drink in each one and there's not such a sense of urgency about the whole thing. I can see the value in both approaches. They will be very different days though. Tell you what Keef. We do a slow stroll of 8 pubs growing slowly drunk over the afternoon on the Saturday. Then on Sunday it?s a mad dash of 20 pubs. Then spend Monday on a drip. Keef
Hmm, not sure doing them over the one weekend is the best idea you've ever had... Well I am up for joining Huguenot for "The Eliminator" on the 17th August, but I thought we'd be doing this before then anyway... Also agree it would be nice to select a few pubs and take a bit more time over it. Brendan
I?m for this route.1. Canning - Maybe starting with some food. 2. Hoopers 3. Gowlette 4. EDT, Bishop or Black Cherry 5. Drum 6. CPT7. Magdala - Pizza8. PloughAll very civilised I know but I'm sure we will find ways to lower the tone. Keef
Hurrah!!!!!!!!! :)-DFor the record, I wouldn't do the big one without eating all day, I'd have a dirty big fry up before hand, but once you start drinking it's liquids only! Michael Palaeologus
Hmmm - not ideal for the diabetics of the Parish Keef! :))At the risk of sounding like a nag - do we have a date for the half marathon pub crawl? rather than Huguenot's Terminator on 17 August?I agree with Keef that 16 August seems a bit unwise, I am sure that 26 July got mentioned at some point - is this OK with folks? Brendan
I think it is a toss up between 19th and 26th of July.2nd August is the day after forum drink so probably not a good idea. Moos
Iwas hoping to come along with Mr Moos and the Moosling (we're just so much more flexible during the day!) but can't make either of those dates. But since we probably wouldn't be taking full part (!) this probably shouldn't change things if those are the best dates for everyone else.
