Hello, first of all apologies if this is not the right space.

In short, I love going to Brockwell lido, it’s never been kept very tidy, but this year a limit has been reached. It’s ming: around the pool and in the changing rooms (one picture attached to give you the gist).

I have taken pictures, sent complaints to fusion and even wrote to local MP.

Is anyone else having same experience? Is there anything more i can do?

thanks in advance

I used to go to Brockwell all the time - when you could pay and spend all day swimming and sunbathing. Then around Covid time they reduced each slot to 1.5 hours (for the same price!) and have never - as far as I can tell - reverted to the old system (hard to be sure as nobody ever answers the phone!) It completely changed the experience. I have recently been to Tooting lido a few times which is much nicer. You get 4 hours per session (3 sessions a day) and they clean it each day between sessions. It's so big it's not difficult to get a space there and although it's further I have switched my allegiance!  With Dulwich pool still closed, it's a shame Brockwell has gone downhill.

I find Fusion are Horrendous.

When they ran Forest Hill pools it was always (although a new facility at the time) really grubby.

Overflowing filthy toilets, dirty changing rooms, slippery floors and filthy swimming pool with cloudy water and Lifeguards who did'nt give a damn about teens  jumping in the pool and making trouble pushing and splashing adult and elderly swimmers.

It was grim and I cancelled my membership and joined Dulwich leisure Centre because I got tired of complaining about changing rooms that smelt of p**s and used sanitary products left on the floor...and nothing changing..new managers would come promise improvement and making zero difference.

In the End they lost the contact and FHP is run by Better and it really is....Better! I'm now happy to go there its well staffed, clean and well run.

Unfortunately unless Fusion loose the contract for the Lido I fear things won't improve.

Hi Juliette thank you for raising this.  I’m in the user group at the Lido. We are doing our best to remedy the situation but it’s proving a challenge.

Please message me on 07825681054 and I can explain in more detail.
Thanks

Marc

Hi Marc

Could I message you too? I'm becoming so frustrated. The last straw is the lack of working barriers, for months now, that they didn't bother to sort before summer now leading to mega queues. So foreseeable.

Absolutely agree , the pool is in a disgusting state at the moment. I’ve also noticed how dirty it’s been lately, especially around the edges and in the changing rooms. It’s honestly at the point where it feels unhygienic, and I wouldn’t be surprised if people got sick from swimming in it.

You’ve done the right thing by reporting it  hopefully if more of us raise concerns , they’ll take it seriously. Happy to add my voice to any formal complaint or petition if that helps.

Thanks for speaking up — you’re definitely not alone!

Looks like they have massive issues with numbers of visitors too...
“People have literally just arrived and are refusing to leave. Chaos. They booked out all the lane spaces but let people in. Absolute sh*t show.”

Sounds like the whole management team (assuming there is one) needs to be replaced with people who have at least the bare minimum of competence for their jobs.

No, it's the AA.

https://www.nationalworld.com/arts-and-culture/these-are-the-uks-best-outdoor-pools-and-lidos-new-lido-league-reveals-top-swimming-spots-5218853

"Experts from The AA analysed 164 lidos and outdoor pools for the average monthly Google search volumes, average Google review scores, Instagram tags, entry and parking fees, as well as the average maximum temperature and hours of summer sunlight at each location, to determine the very best swimming spots across the UK."

I’ve been a few times in last few weeks, had found the changing room (make) to be a bit grim.

Also the outside lockers requiring £1 to use to get a key, some don’t work.

don't do what I did & forget your £1 though, put my stuff in a locker but left key in, got out of pool to find someone had chucked my stuff out (literally chucked, everything was scattered around on the ground not put  aside)

they had put their items in and locked it. 🙄

    • Sophie, I have to thank you for bringing me squarely into 2025.  I was aware of 4G/5G USB dongles for single computers, and of being able to use smartphones for tethering 4G/5G, but hadn't realised that the four mobile networks were now providing home hub/routers, effectively mimicking the cabled broadband suppliers.  I'd personally stick to calling the mobile networks 4G/5G rather than wifi, so as not to confuse them with the wifi that we use within home or from external wifi hotspots. 4G/5G is a whole diffferent, wide-area set of  networks, and uses its own distinct wavebands. So, when you're saying wi-fi, I assume you're actually referring to the wide-area networks, and that it's not a matter of just having poor connections within your home local area network, or a router which is deficient.   If any doubt, the best test will be with a computer connected directly to the router by cable; possibly  trying different locations as well. Which really leaves me with only one maybe useful thing to say.  :) The Which pages at https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/broadband/article/what-is-broadband/what-is-4g-broadband-aUWwk1O9J0cW look pretty useful and informative. They include local area quality of coverage maps for the four providers (including 5G user reports I think) , where they say (and I guess it too is pretty common knowledge): Our survey of the best and worst UK mobile networks found that the most common issues mobile customers have are constantly poor phone signal and continuous brief network dropouts – and in fact no network in our survey received a five star rating for network reliability.
    • 5G has a shorter range and is worse at penetrating obstacles between you and the cell tower, try logging into the router and knocking it back to 4G (LTE) You also need to establish if the problem is WiFi or cellular. Change the WiFi from 5GHz to 2.4GHz and you will get better WiFi coverage within your house If your WiFi is fine and moving to 4G doesn't help then you might be in a dead spot. There's lots of fibre deployed in East Dulwich
    • Weve used EE for the past 6 years. We're next to Peckham Rye. It's consistent and we've never had any outages or technical issues. We watch live streams for football and suffer no lags or buffering.   All the best.
