Just been on BBC News Peckham is being Gentrified.. It is the place to be and be seen. Ahem.. Chokes on water.

House prices are Rising. Estate Agents have people on their books who want to move there.

Soon Places like the so called 'Bellenden Village' will be dis-associating themselves from East Dulwich.

The Gowlet will be back in Peckham. NOT East Dulwich.

People living in Parts of E.D. will claim to live in Peckham. Believe me, they will.

I went to see Rush in Peckham last night. There were four others in the audience. I drove up the multi story to see if I could have a gander at Franks but the steel shutters were up.

There were three other cars in the car park.

I thought I'd park on the 5th floor anyway but the lifts were out of order, it stunk of urine, there were some quite impressive piles of shite and a load of cardboard and rags. i.e. a number of people call it home.

It all seemed a long way from the 'G' word.

Good film though, and only a fiver to get in

I think all you have said was mentioned in one of the recent reviews.

including the lifts - you have to walk :)

Except it was still summer and Franks was open.

Part of 'the experience'

For a minute there I thought you meant the band*...

I know, schoolboy error. To believe an audience of 4 would watch Rush perform live was me being overly optimistic...

Please can people stop saying The Gowlett is in East Dulwich?! The Gowlett is NOT East Dulwich, it is Peckham!!!

Over the last 30 years or so some new arrivals in our area have re-named some parts of East Dulwich as "Peckham".

More recent arrivals now fall in line and routinely do the same.

Even English Heritage in its area characterisation report has mentioned the southward migration of the Peckham place-name.

John K

A parish is simply?a small administrative district. East Dulwich Parish does not exist anymore. If we are going to define areas by parish, then East Dulwich doesn't exist, instead the area is made up of the parish of st Clement's with st Peter's and the parish of St Barnabas Dulwich.

John you are clearly absolutely desperate to live in East Dulwich. Why on earth did you buy a place in Peckham?

That's quite a negative post! There are some very nice bits of Peckham - and East Dulwich is lovely!

    • Miss Robson is the last of the old school independent vets. All the chains are have seriously hiked their prices over the last few years which now makes pet ownership only possible for the wealthy few. Even with pet insurance -( which often excludes items or has ‘deductibles’ ) it is just so much money. A visit with some medication is often £150 - £200. The vets themselves are excellent.
    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.
    • Dawson Heights again  2 lifts out of order at ladlands block Christmas Eve so of course the 🛗 will not be repaired tomorrow Christmas Day or Boxing Day or when how do elderly or mothers with children and prams and food and presents get to the floors and with the 10 minutes you get to drop off  to park and not get a Pcn fine and delivery food to relatives who can’t leave their house unbelievable Southern housing does any know email address of Coe of southern housing
    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
