Did anyone else hear a strange rumbling sound Sunday 13th 1.45am?

I went into my garden for a cigarette when I suddenly started to hear a loud rumbling noise. I thought it was thunder but it went on for approximately 2-3mins and there was no lightning. The sound then started to become slowly less but sounded more like it was moving away with whatever was causing it. It did not sound like a plane and the pitch did not change it was more constant except it faded. It was definitely coming from the sky. Once it stopped there were no other noises or anything to suggest it was weather related. I initially thought it was going to pour down rain with that sound but nothing. The only thing that I can think of that would make that sound would be an aircraft decelerating through orbit but I doubt it.

Just wondering if anyone else heard the noise or may know what caused the sound?

Yes I heard it, when in near-sleep state. It went on for longer than an overflight or train would, and didn't sound like a helicopter.

About a couple of weeks ago, at about the same time of day, I heard a fairly regular clanking sound. It sounded so like someone trying to break in somewhere that I actually got up and dressed and had a walk around. I eventually found a small fleet of rail maintenance vans parked outside ED station, so assumed it was them.

I've since seen some spare rails on the track within the station, so obviously there's some long term maintanance work taking place. Might last night's have been part of it?

    • They used to have a very good bookshop - more academic type books and general books around grief and bereavement. Not sure if that is included in the new CARE building.  After my mother died, we continued to go to the hospice as they did a very good Sunday Lunch at a very reasonable price. They also had musicians playing in the centre.  The gardens at St Christopher's are beautiful and open to all. If you have never been to the Hospice , what hits you when you enter as the feeling of calmness and peace, in contrast to general hospitals. They also have a programme of events - talks, music, quizzes . Comedian Tom Allen does a lot of fundraising for the hospice. Some years ago, my husband who has been a volunteer for over 15 years, and I went to a cream tea there.
    • Another bakery staple in days gone by - bread pudding. Place bakers(?) where Harry's is now always used to sell big chunks of this. I think Morrisons also used to sell it in a packet of 2 slices. Are bakeries now just dumping their unsold bread? I make bread pudding regularly - use reduced bread from supermarkets ( loaf cost me 22p) and last time made 3 batches one for us plus two for friends.
    • Went to thee Viet place in LL some time ago and got charged £9 for a pot of tea  Hubby paid bill and did not notice that they had overcharged. Frequently go past the old Moulin restaurant- rarely see people in it. No indication whether they are providing meals as no menu outside (unless they have pit it up in last few days) Got impression that it was a wine bar only. Love Dulwich is usually busy between 12 - 2 pm when they have their lunch time specials  not been there in evening or weekends.
