Anchor & Hope taking over a pub in Camberwell

I've never been to the Anchor & Hope in The Cut, SE1 but it gets consistently brilliant reviews and I've always meant to try it.

They are taking over The Recreation Ground in Camberwell Church Street early in the New Year and calling it The Camberwell Arms, so looks like another great addition to what's becoming a pretty amazing corner of London for food and drink.

Not strictly East Dulwich (which is why I'm posting here) but I know many forumites are aware of the great opportunities for face-stuffing in Camberwell, my faves being The Crooked Well, Angels & Gypsies (and their fab new bar, Communion) and Silk Road.

Yep, Anchor & Hope a firm favourite.

Brother in law came back from there spectacularly sozzled at about 2am on his last visit.

Didn't know about Communion, will have to check _that_ out!!!

Try it El Pibe - great cocktails. It's in the basement of Angels & Gypsies, opened a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah... FM Mangal is great. Wulli Wulli is good too. Even the Indian restaurant along there is a notch above most of the LL places.

Then there's Silk Road, The Bear, Crooked Well, Johanssons, the falafel place...the new creperie. The Vietnamese sandwich place by the hospital too.

All excellent scran. An unloved corner of London that has a surprisingly high culinary hit rate.

Love the FM Mangale - its like how Hisars used to be but better.

One for Annette, but do they use lots of lighter fluid on those open grills? I could swear I could taste it on my last Kuzu Sish....

Great news. A couple of weeks ago a group of us had the lamb for 5 at the Canton Arms Sth Lambeth Rd, the best Sunday lunch I can remember.

I did hear a rumour a few weeks ago through a friend who works at the A&H, so happy it's true! The Canton used to be my local and great food, staff and atmosphere.
