MrBen
Two great local indie businesses with good choice and service perhaps?Versus shipped from a warehouse owned by a US Corp manned by Latvia slave droids.Just a wild guess. KalamityKel
I was after examples of stock to make such a trip to a shop (regardless if local or not) worth it and curious as to why that particular shop was chosen for all gifts -i mean everyones getting a book and nothing else? Not that theres anything wrong with that its great! I was not seeking any sarky comments from the likes of mrben or belittling mzblueberry for their choice of shop tyvm Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39089-decided-to-buy-all-christmas-gifts-at-chener-books-and-rye-books/#findComment-701206 Share on other sites
Loz
Books are only slightly ahead of gift vouchers as far as imaginative presents go. If someone gives you a gift voucher for a bookshop you know you there was pretty much zero thought spent on you. intexasatthe moment
Would it be very rude to ask what you've selected ? MrBen
Thirded.I'm not sure that this thread is the best place to recommend specific books, more that the shops themselves are worth a visit. They'll have a much smaller stock on the premises than an Amazon warehouse but that's the point. It's all thoughtfully curated. They've picked some highlights and some rarities of interest to most. And if thats not enough they'll order stuff in quickly.Actually going, browsing, leafing through a nice selection of books. The smell even. I happen to like the experience. Loz
Well I did wonder why the ladies weren't impressed when I shoved a book down my trousers. It was the fifth Harry Potter, too. Otta
I have nothing at all against Chener books. But I dislike my local book shop (Kirkdale books) and I'd much rather give my money to Amazon than them. And I get a hell of a lot more for it. Otta
Mate I'd fail a test of "bands I should know" miserably.Plus I'd probably think a bunch of guys that promoted anarchism as a political ideology were a bunch of pricks that would grow up to run a VERY middle class book shop in Sydenham. Otta
Yes, exactly that David."middle class" was probably the wrong term to use."Pretentious, patronising, air of superiority". That's better.Have you ever visited?
