yeknomyeknom
My baby had slightly rough skin so I decided to apply a moisturiser. I started with Johnson's baby moisturiser but have since learnt about all the parabens etc. I then tried calendula from weleda which I found sticky. Finally I have just tried pure coconut oil and it has actually made dry patches on his skin. I have now read applying a oil, can make some body's think they don't need to make their own oil. Hence dry patches. Can anyone recommend a cream? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39242-baby-moisturiser/ Share on other sites

Pickle
I used cream on my first child, and he had all sorts of skin problems. With my other two I never used anything and they had lovely skin! I don't think creams are necessary at all, unless they have a diagnosed skin complaint. katgod
Pure Potions Balm- avaialble on line - only need a tiny amount. Agree nothing regularly - this is for occasional use as and when needed Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39242-baby-moisturiser/#findComment-702526 Share on other sites
treehugger
I think Vaseiline intensive care cream is amazing. My daughter had really terrible cradle cap and it sorted it out. Quite surprising as it looks like it's full of chemicals... yeknomyeknom
For those of you that use nothing, I suppose you need to make sure your bath products don't dry them out. What do you use in the bath if you use no cream after? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39242-baby-moisturiser/#findComment-702533 Share on other sites
Pickle
I've always used the lavender Johnson's baby bubble bath, with no problems. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39242-baby-moisturiser/#findComment-702534 Share on other sites
midivydale
Second Aveeno, it is lovely. I also use olive oil and sometimes coconut oil on my son. Both my son and I are very sensitive and react to most body creams such as Johnsons, Nivea and Oilatum but we are both fine with Aveeno. midivydale
Oh and I use Aveeno bath oil in his bath too and it is gorgeous. Not sure if Eucerin is available in the UK but if so they do a lovely shower oil that I use if I have it at home. Then follow up with olive oil or coconut oil on any rough patches. sanity girl
I've stopped using anything in the bath as bubble bath definitely dries my son's skin. Just a bit of soap to clean any dirty bits. When he was a baby and had a bit of eczema I used Aveeno bath oil. My daughter's skin on the other hand can tolerate anything! sillywoman
Dr can prescribe Aveeno for dry skin - useful if it's for your child as their prescriptions are free, and Aveeno is lovely, but loveliness has a price! Mellors
My boy has eczema, and (after much trial and error) its mostly deal with via Oilatum bath oil and Aveeno moisturiser. We get them on prescription, although both are available in the pharmacy. Also don' tbath too often - we were advised once/twice a week, just wipe with a wet flannel if mucky in the meantime. canela
Mellors, I'm interested to know how you managed to get on prescription i.e. was it difficult? My daughter has just been diagnosed with eczema and I've found the doctors to be pretty unhelpful, to be honest... Mellors
Hi - not really difficult to get on prescription once you have seen the right doctor and figured out what works - I now have a permanent repeat. He's been at DMC since birth when it became apparent (he is now seven). They prescribed various creams/bath things etc etc and we gradually worked out what worked for us over a period of a couple of years (thankfully with the lovely Dr Sathia - some of the others were useless). Once we had it figured out we got a repeat prescription and have a six montlhy review unless there is a bad flare up in the meantime (although I also hold steroid cream for use if it does). hazelnunhead
Another recommendation for Aveeno, as well as Aveeno bath oil ..... Smells lovely, and is the one thing my excema prone daughter can use to help her. YummyMummy01
My daughter suffered from terrible eczema and dry skin. We tried so many different products and the only thing that works was castor oil. Cleared it up in no time and wouldn't use anything else now even on myself Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39242-baby-moisturiser/#findComment-703285 Share on other sites
Mrs TP
We use Doublebase Gel, which you can get in a 500g jar from the chemist. Two of mine are prone to dry skin esp in winter with the heating blasting out. It sinks in really well and does not leave the skin greasy after a few moments. crystal7
Another vote for Aveeno moisturiser. With my oldest we have never used anything but the little one suffers from dry scaly patches of skin. We don't use anything in the bath, just slather on the Aveeno. Dr happy to prescribe even though he doesn't have excema as such. esme
Pickle Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I've always used the lavender Johnson's baby> bubble bath, with no problems.Me too, very gentle :) also like Aveeno but not really necessary if you don't suffer from eczema. I would prob say try natural product like olive oil or failing that E45 or similar. Health Matters on Lordship lane stock some very gentle baby products too which I always have found expensive but worthwhile.
