Sorry, but the missus moved jobs and the ED commute was hell for her. Then we decided to escape the rat race for a while and become ski instructors for a couple of years. Soon, back to reality though. Ew.

It's a very nice part of W13. Sort of the East Dulwich of the West. Except it has a tube station.

I never wanted to leave ED but alas circumstance forced my hand. My family has however settled in really nicely out here.

Me, well I ride a skateboard to work, do yoga and think comic books are an art form. What in the name of all the gods am I doing in Surrey?

I am pretty good at drinking wine and speaking to people about their jobs in venues as monochrome as the audis parked outside. It is afterall a professional necessity. But fuck me if I'm not getting sick of doing it for 'fun'.

Well it's comforting to know that I'll be in good company then!

Brendan, we are moving to Surrey, technically speaking, though I'm still thinking of it as London...

Loz, MrTwirly has a similar plan as I can't find anything similar where we're going. Every area should have it's own version of the EDF!

Anyway, we're only 40 minutes away in the car, am sure we'll be back over occasionally. And I can keep an eye out on here for the latest "in" places to book for lunch when we do...

You saw me on the bus you fucker, and didn't say hello?? (oh wait, did you mean Annasfield?)

I been up east hanging with the hipsters, but still around and about. Saw that Otta one in EDT the other night.

My post count has trended downwards for a long time now, so it?s entirely possible the move might tip me over

But it wouldn?t be a ?I no longer live here, so long suckers? flounce ? it would be more of a ?dear Lord but it hasn?t been fun posting on here for a looong time and god knows it?s only habit and the occasional flurry of activity from the more intelligent posters that keeps me coming back, but they constitute a diminishing percentage of the forum population so really, why do I do it?? type thing

And even having said that ? it?s still better than any other locale-based forum I?ve come across

Left ED over 18th months ago and still occasionally visit - that's both the forum and the area. I'll certainly still post about particular bug bears or favourites and as I do come and see friends it is good to know where to eat and what to do when I am here - although some of my friends seem to find it slightly annoying that I know more about the area when I am many miles away than they do when they still live here.

I left ED when I joined the RAF in 1954.

Still look back with fond memories

I was born in Jennings Rd, lived there through the war, went to Heber Rd school when it had a bell tower. When I look at Google street maps, I know it's 60yrs ago, but I have trouble recognising places. Hey Ho, would like to come back sometime

Left in 1998 after 4 years, came back in 2002 and left last April (26th) after 12 years.

Lurk and titter probably every other day. ED has changed too much for me to miss it too much, but I wish there was a Goose Green play park near me!

There are quite a few ex-ED where I live now strangely!

Loz, I had no idea you had left!!

    • The permission covers two properties, the retail unit and a first floor flat, so it is in part already a residential building. There appears nothing in the documents to suggest change of use, which I don't think would be classed as 'minor' which this is.
    • That's interesting. I assumed it wasn't going to stay as a retail unit, given the years of ongoing work. I assumed it was going to be either an extension to the mosque or a residential building.
    • Brexit - but not simply the act of leaving the EU, as damaging as that is in and of itself But everything around it. - the madness of "taking back control", "they need us more than we need them", the increase in volume and extremity of lies required to get it over the line, the clear denial of reality - all of that has led to the current situation where parties of left and right can win huge majorities and find out the beast of anti-immigration can never be sated the course correction involves acknowledging as a country that we need immigration and lots of it (related: acknowledge we aren't as special case when it comes to asylum and refugees - other countries take proportionally more)  We need to be part of the EU. Climate change in and of itself will see global increase in migrations - we need to be building systems that welcome and accommodate the future - not stick our heads in the sand like hobbits  If we don't collectively agree around this then the descent into authoritarian right-wing madness will continue
    • We are certainly better as a country than implementing the latest vile proposals from Mahmood  about seizing immigrants' jewellery https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/nov/17/refugees-jewellery-asylum-home-office?CMP=share_btn_url
