Anyone who thinks Tom's posts are anything but mature and that they don't show great consideration for this caller needs their head examined. Louisa summed it up well while Salsaboy's mother hen comment is strange as you have the option of ignoring a thread on the forum if you wish.

There are ways of correcting and ways of correcting LadyD.

A 'thanks for trying to help but you are wrong on this one' would have sufficed, instead of using provocation tactics.

Then it wouldn't have turned into a bitchfest would it?

aquarius moon I think that's slightly unfair. The opening post made a very reasonable attempt to explain themselves - subsequent early responses went off topic and made wild assumptions. The OP clearly felt these comments were not relevant.

I think the best thing might be to contact the Adult Services team at Southwark and ask to speak to the team that deals with elderly vulnerable people and/or adult mental health. They may be able to identify the lady and offer her some support following an assessment of her needs.

OK, many thanks, will do first thing Monday.

Tom

To be fair though, if part of the theme of this thread is extending special courtesies to the elderley. Shouldn't this be extended equally to the Fox? I am correct in assuming he is a mature gentleman? A lot of his post have a "In the good old days, East Dulwich..." theme.

Why are SOME people here so obsessed with what The Fox says. ?

Have you really not got more important things to worry about. ?

People doing Post-Mortems on all of The Fox's past posts.

'Middle age in his 20's'

Age only exists in the minds of ordinary people..

The more Talented and Exceptionable are sometime Old and sometimes Young..

In the same way they are sometimes Happy and sometimes Sad..

My original reply to the OP may of been wrong, but was based on the symptoms of what the OP described.

They were similar to calls my late mother had been receiving a couple of years back.

The reply was a genuine attempt to help. That's what I do. I help people.

Sometimes advice is misguided or misunderstood. But if I can help one person for every two I try, I am happy.

It is not The Fox (as people seem to of named me) that is negative. It's the pack of Hounds that chase him.

This Fox Hunts Alone.

Social Services operate on addresses generally and not phone numbers however given more details as to the nature of the calls and conversation had, they may ring up the person and try and find out more about the lady. A quiet talk with PC Adrian Crust and giving him the number, he may be able to find out the address and do a 'checking call'to see if the lady is ok. Depending on outcome, Police will decide whether to contact Social Services.

Delighted to report that the calls have stopped. None for the last 2 nights/days.

The new phone system enabled us to bar calls from her number and it also lists all attempts to connect to us from that barred number.

Whether the lady in question reads the EDF or has a friend/relative who intervened, we will never know but whatever happened, a positive outcome was achieved.

May thanks to all those who offered sympathy and suggestions.

    • I'd have thought they could use some of  their income from hiring out a large part of Brockwell Park in the summer (therefore, as I understand it, preventing local residents from using much of it) to put on a firework display there  in the autumn which might somewhat make up to those residents for the previous loss of use of the park. And also generate goodwill.
    • Clicking on your name, I see you've made seven posts on here since you joined  around four years ago, and they've all been about local libraries. And none of the posts are  very pleasant. Care to share with the rest of us where  your particular interest in libraries comes from? Do you work in one of them?
    • Kam was with us last week to wallpaper a bedroom. He was a pleasure to deal with and did a fantastic job - very neat and matched the tricky pattern very well. Would certainly use again.
    • What a bunch of pieholes. 2025 and you peasants have nothing to be grateful for. I have been inside the library recently and honestly the old girl is crying for a facelift, the goddamn carpet looks like it survived the world war and some. The Library is one of the oldest in Southwark and you are crying about a study place? What a bunch of bullshit. You have libraries all around you for your kids to go their studying you rotten sausage. How about be happy that the library is going to look absolutely stunning rather than be a whining bitch about it   Also, I have been told that the staffs have to work in the smaller libraries together. How do you think they feel?
