Le Chardon - terrible service

Well - I'm going to give Barking84 a break. I have been on the receiving end - although admittedly this was back in 2008 - and we did nothing to provoke it, being impeccably behaved and polite. I think our mistake was ordering soup from the lunch menu. Luckily we were chilled out enough to see the absurd 'humour' in the situation ...and the soup was goood!

I've given up going there now because I've had terrible service nearly every time I've gone, as have a lot of other people on this previous thread:

I've also found that the food can be really variable.

Went at the weekend. Really nice meal, service good. They seem full often enough that the majority of people seem to rate it so don't be put off by the bad reviews, they're not representative.

Hardly short-shrift - it's called debate and is what ensues when one posts criticism - hard to judge now though as it has been deleted. And I was referring to the 'final' post rather than the merits of the argument. Still, so much easier to make a quasi-pithy point and add your own '???'s and flounce out, no?

It is a funny place though, Le Chardon. We went a couple of times many years ago when we first arrived (it's one of the most appealing looking places on LL at first sight).

The service was a bit dodge, I have to say. The food was kinda okaaaay, but not overly memorable. If either of those two things had made a better mark, we could have made allowances for the other. But the two together.. hmmm.

In all honesty it's never crossed our minds to go back. Not in a 'nevuuur, nevurrr, NEVUUUURRRRR!!' way; just in a 'almost forgot it was a restaurant we could go to' kinda way.

Maybe it's an acquired taste.

I had some lacklustre fishcakes there once. I was with the love of my life so it didn't matter.

I like the cheap Amazon vouchers and the foie gras. Always give me heartburn, though!

I went last night with my wowcher voucher. I loved it. The style, the service, the food the whole vibe. It was busy and buzzy. Forget the rep and go.
