Le Chardon - terrible service

Well - I'm going to give Barking84 a break. I have been on the receiving end - although admittedly this was back in 2008 - and we did nothing to provoke it, being impeccably behaved and polite. I think our mistake was ordering soup from the lunch menu. Luckily we were chilled out enough to see the absurd 'humour' in the situation ...and the soup was goood!

I've given up going there now because I've had terrible service nearly every time I've gone, as have a lot of other people on this previous thread:

I've also found that the food can be really variable.

AND GRACE3 I THINK YOU MIGHT BE MY FAVOURITE. NOT BY A LONG WAY - THERE ARE PLENTY OTHERS ON HERE. BUT A BIT. YOU'RE SWEET. WE MIGHT BE FRIENDS IN REAL LIFE - NO WE MIGHT, WE BOTH LIVE IN EAST DULWICH AFTER ALL!!!!

SEE YOU ALL IN REAL LIFE WHERE PEOPLE ARE NICE TO EACH OTHER (NOT Le Chardon obviously - somewhere else!)

WON'T BE BACK IN A HURRY. (AND PLEASE MAKE SURE SOMEONE LEAVES THE IMPORTANT 'WE DON'T WANT YOU BACK/NOT SAD TO SEE YOU GO POST' - I'D BE SAD NOT TO SEE IT! EXCEPT I WON'T SEE IT. BECAUSE I WON'T BE BACK.

AND I'M WRITING IN CAPITALS BECAUSE I KNOW THAT GETS A LOT OF CHAT IN AND OF ITSELF.

(AND EDCAM - THEY'RE NEVER FULL, GET REAL! lol!)

Hardly short-shrift - it's called debate and is what ensues when one posts criticism - hard to judge now though as it has been deleted. And I was referring to the 'final' post rather than the merits of the argument. Still, so much easier to make a quasi-pithy point and add your own '???'s and flounce out, no?

Quality flounce.

It is a funny place though, Le Chardon. We went a couple of times many years ago when we first arrived (it's one of the most appealing looking places on LL at first sight).

The service was a bit dodge, I have to say. The food was kinda okaaaay, but not overly memorable. If either of those two things had made a better mark, we could have made allowances for the other. But the two together.. hmmm.

In all honesty it's never crossed our minds to go back. Not in a 'nevuuur, nevurrr, NEVUUUURRRRR!!' way; just in a 'almost forgot it was a restaurant we could go to' kinda way.

Maybe it's an acquired taste.

    • I'd also like to highly recommend Niko. He just replaced the extraction fan in our bathroom, having previously installed a new tap for us. Fast, professional and a really great guy.
    • Agree with this. He's stood down from his role in Cabinet having left the Party, but he was elected as a representative of all the constituents in his ward and logic suggests that he should continue to represent them as a councillor for his remaining 3 months. He might wish to stand again, as a Green, in that ward (if he's chosen) and hope that personal loyalty to him might transfer, but that's now the call of his (new) party and him. He will have to balance that with a view about how many of his Labour supporters will feel sufficiently betrayed to continue to support Labour. I suspect, I may be wrong, that he will not have a cabinet position open to him after May (unless the Greens sweep in locally) so presumably he will have to consider his next career move, and whether that's back to full-time primary teaching.
    • The Po on LL was looking a lot cleaner and tidier this morning
    • God forbid it's Labour (or the Tories for that matter
