I want to do my daugthers room this year, and have been looking at cabin beds (mid sleepers) - beds that are raised off the ground, (not the very high ones) and you can have a desk that slides in and out. My daughter has a longish narrow room and this seems like it would free up space for her as we could probably either push a chest of drawers under it, or leave it as space to play under.

I wondered if anyone else had bought one of these and could recommend any shops/brands. I have had a good look on the internet, (Ikea, Stompa - which look interesting - but was looking for some recommendations from someone who has one of these.

Thanks

This is the model my daughter has - although hers also has a slide out desk (which I haven't got around to assembling yet!!) It's simple, but sturdy and strong. There are shelves at one end which are handy http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stompa-Pine-Cabin-Bed-/221357417372?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Beds&hash=item3389ee239c

we have ordered standard bunks from this website, recommended by friends who got mid-sleepers from them. They are very good at tailoring to your particular needs e.g. room size/low ceilings, and I think they are very reasonable. Ours haven't come yet so can't give you first hand experience, but my friend's ones are fab!

Warning: website has bizarre tinkly music, which when I posted it on FB a friend commented seemed to send the message 'It WILL be ok' :)

I should say, if space and money were no obect, I love this one (locally made I believe too)- can be bunks or a mid sleeper with desk underneath: http://iokidsdesign.co.uk/the-bunk-pod

We've got the Ikea Kura, I've reversed the panels to make it white not blue, much nicer! Took me 6 hours to build it by myself, in 38 degree summer heat last year. Well worth it though. Daughter is 5 very soon. She originally had it as a mid sleeper, with Trofast stepped unit running down the end. She would go up the ladder and come down the stairs. After a fall from the top she became a little worried so requested it got flipped over. Its not a 'four poster' style bed, using the ladder as shelving for a drink at night and nightlight. She has a thin silk curtain tacked along the top that can be used as a overhead canopy or folded down to make a curtain across the face of the bed. She loves it, plenty of space to stash a bit underneath even in 'four poster' mode. Very happy with it. Easily pick on up on eBay for ?50 in good condition, or new they are ?120 without mattress. Very solid, I was surprised actually. I've slept in it with her in both modes.

We have this Stompa one for my son (3) http://www.johnlewis.com/stompa-uno-plus-midsleeper-and-tent/p356670?colour=Blue

Very sturdy - either my husband or I lay in it to read him a story before bed every night. Not to high (he happily climbs in and out without help, even in the dark) and it's definiely made bedtime more appealing for him (hallelujah).

If you order from John Lewis they will come and install it for you for no extra charge - definitely worth it.

Just be aware that the mattress that fits it is continental size (i.e. same as Ikea) so if you use fitted sheets then you might need to order online.

After doing quite a bit of googling, we settled for a Thuka High sleeper for our 6 year old (soon to be 7) son. I know you are after a mid sleeper, but it may be worth considering high sleepers to. Our son absolutely loves his and it has literally doubled the size of his narrow, high ceiling room! Here's where we ordered ours: http://www.thekidswindow.co.uk/html/ReadRange.asp?product=7704&range=714&category=900

I proper like the mid sleeper beds...my two kids have gone one each. I bought them little play tents to add onto them to make them have some privacy but also a 'den'. I love it. One of my kids is 5 and 7. although i think the 5 year old is just a bit younger- we have made sure it's safe so he won't take a tumble during the night!! Have a look on http://www.childrensbedshop.co.uk/ it's a proper little gem for Children's beds and orher stuff for cheap prices. Hope it helps you :)

    • With fibre you are paying for the speed, which is the number, yours is 300 so if you did a lot of gaming, for example, you would want the fastest possible.  If it's just office work or maybe streaming on Netflix you likely won't need as fast, but, if there are a lot of people in your house all doing their own thing on different devices, then faster speeds are better.  I don't rely on my Wi-Fi much other than when I am using my mobile.  I use Ethernet cables to connect up everything, I Have one cable running from my router, along the skirtings and through a hole I drilled in the wall to another room.  I have attached the plusnet speed guide which gives you an idea of how it works.

    • Just shows, to me, once proud to be a citizen of UK.. now.. well if we pay/contribute to services - nhs, police, fire etc and folk who have made this there home - no matter what creed or culture.. for the love c of God, can someone  please explain to me.. how we have working royals who like them or not, have tried and continue to actually support and make a change and then we have Andrew.. who just destroys everything.. not just him, or royalty but his own children..  I had great admiration for The Queen - and respect.. as have a huge number of people.. but.. these old traditions where gosh.. live rent free and can’t get chucked out until I believe 2070? From what I scanned..well he has and continues to have it all.. has to go thru what old rules? Etc.  doubt very much he has even kept the upkeep maintenance up on his abode.. and do the shite keeps on pulling up.. What has Andrew done for UK or for that matter since he was 20?? Do please tell me       Totally off topic, before anyone jumps down my throat.. I just do not get how anyone is proud to be British at this point in time. Whoever is in power, seems to be able to help themselves to the public purse with no redress at all - Covid is a great example of lining of pockets.. Millions  given to Rowanda, so one is led to believe, to help with refugee problem and one can’t get a plane load off!  I simply do not get it at all. Use of food banks in UK growing yearly, homeless as well, nhs, police, fire service etc all on their knees..
    • Have applied the green roof at a number of properties and no issues you are concerned about detected. Have issues with cats defecating in the vicinity, however, they are not selecting the green roof specifically. Use decent compost, slow release fertiliser specific for green roofs, and lay it methodically not leaving blank patches. It looks amazing when cared for and adds value.
