i need a holiday, stat. (is that the word? I've been watching a lot of ER)

having quit my job a couple of weeks ago, visited friends and family and generally watched too much daytime tv, I now need to go on holiday before the money runs out and I have to get a job (I've got two weeks max)

I need a week in the sun on my own because all my friends are seemingly otherwise gainfully employed. I'm too tired for strenuous activity, but I don't want to end up in a resort where a nice couple invite me to dine with them because I'm Shirley Valentine in the corner (although a resort where I get it on with Tom Conti wouldn't go amiss)

mostly I want to lie down, read books and eat nice food

any suggestions?

Damn, that's harsh. How about a sailing holiday, or is that not your thing? Great thing there is accommodation is included! It's a pretty popular thing to do for single travellers...

There wasn't a lot of wind in Croatia in early August though, but it may be picking up now.

That reminds me of the time I parked the car on a lay-by to take a leak. As I was walking out from the bushes, I gazed up at a yellow sign entitled, "Danger, mines!". I'll think twice next time about p1ssing on someone else's turf!!!

Seriously though, you're only likely to find mines in Croatia if you really head off the beaten track.

You won't get hit on by men in Turkey if you don't look 'up for it' - they are not stupid, it also depends on the sort of resort you go to - obviously if there is a predominance of younger people it will have a different atmosphere to a more family resort.

Try googling Kas on the Lycian coast - it is beautiful as is Kalkan - but a bit more going on in Kas.

Also avoids Eurozone - however southern Italy is cheap even with the Euro.

I was in Egypt a few years a go with my Mum, a friend of mine and her Mum. None of us were on holiday to get laid (which I assume it was you mean), yet the fact that we were women on our own meant that we had plenty of unwanted attention.

Cleary though as we were wearing summery clothes etc, we were "up for it". Is that what you mean?

    • You can get a card at the till, though, to get the discount. You don't have to carry it with you (or load it onto your phone), you can just get a different card each time. Not sure what happens if they notice 🤣
    • Yes..that may be the case but membership STARTING at £115 a month is still unafforable for many. Council gyms also have a large range of equipment and I had a  PT at Dulwich leisure centre when I was in Full Time employment who was incredible and even kept in contact during lockdown giving me a program I could do at home and checking in weekly at no charge or personal gain for herself. I dont doubt that Fit For may be a good gym (Its been in situ long enough so must be doing something right) However the cost of membership means it is affordable for the few not the many. If I could afford that kind of fee I would rather get a train to Canary Wharf and go to Virgin active where theres a pool and incredible classes and facilities
    • This sounds great 👍
    • We found a red TREK bike yesterday that had clearly been stolen and dumped. Would love to reunite it with its owner. Get in touch if you know whose it is.
