We have given up on Tesco's home delivery service now and were about to try Sainsbury's instead... oh dear, looks like they are rubbish too.


From Tesco we've had missing shopping (sonmeone nicked it out of the back of the van apparently), one delivery left on the doorstep in crates while we weren't there (they turned up early!) and several late deliveries.


The last straw was when the driver claimed we weren't at home when he called (it turned out that he had pressed the wrong bell). We had to beg the call centre to persuade him to come back; when he did he was grumpy and rude.


That's the last time I shop at Tesco.

have used tesco's a few times and would not recommend them. i think they use the brixton branch as its the nearest one (but not sure??) and food received has always been substituted, close to expiry or just a bit manky (fruit and veg). would suggest avoiding them at all cost.

I see Asda are now delivering locally.


I have moved my weekly delivery to abel and cole and have a comepletely different basket of food.. organic veg box etc... nice to cut down on convenoence foods and packaging. Will try tesco or asda for fortnightly delivery of stuff like loo roll and washing powder.

I found that getting rid of the convenience foods we used to get, I can get raw ingredients (organic) for the same price.. am about to start weaning babies so it's organic city round here, for a while at least!

I used sainsburys for a long time and eventually got so jacked off with them we changed and did the shopping ourselves which we found was much much better value.. Now we have gotten rid of the car we are back to online shopping but use Ocado and they are great..

Having read all of the postings the moral must be to get out there and do your own shop. Can you be to busy not to get food/product that you need to survive?


Sainsbury's are open 24 hours a day (at a cost to the enviroment) so that you can get want you want. Other stores also open late. Why wait three to four hours for a late delivery, when you could have got your shop in less than an hour?

Glad to see it is not just me (if you know what i mean). Had so many problems with Sainsburys it became a joke. As much as a pain as it was i sent a letter of complaint every time after the first incident and was often offered a money off voucher. I'd rather they did it right in the first place. The most annoying thing was they constantly messed up any 2 4 1 offer. I ended up paying full price for one item so many times on the 4th time i gave up.

Hello LibraCarr, there's a 'ping' missing from your shopping. Didn't Sainsbury's deliver that either?

No wonder you sacked them.

Just had a sainsbury's delivery.


They omitted to tell us on the delivery note that they did not deliver 15 items.


When I phoned customer services they said 'you were not charged for the items so I don't know what you want me to do'.


They begrudgingly gave me an e-voucher after I got rather annoyed. What am I supposed to do with an e-voucher for a service I never intend to use again?

That's very good of you Samstopit, and as soon as I figure out how to use an e-voucher, I'll let you know how I spent it.

I'm thrilled to be getting one, though. Can I get Nectar points with it? I speak as one who once used 14,000 of those precious points on a Freeview thing, a thing if I could turn my neck round, I'd see laying dormant. Behind me.

Still, I shall use restraint in my use of the 'e' voucher, and will, I trust make you proud.

    • London doesn’t have a lot of Argentinian places specialising in empanadas, which suggests demand isn’t that great. There are many neighbourhoods with none at all or even nearby.  So for a mini-chain like Chango (several branches in SW London) to open here where there’s already a well established family run place doing the same feels a bit off.  I’ll be giving Chacarero my ongoing custom. 
    • This is so helpful, everyone, thank you. @green bean Yes we have just (as of yesterday) installed the same external blinds you mention! We already had blackout blinds and we now have the external awnings too. Of course that will guarantee the end of the summer sunshine but I can see that they're going to be helpful as they let the light through but not the glare of the sun - I'm fed up of working in darkness with both the blackout blinds closed on sunny days. We'll see how we go with those for a bit but I reckon we'll get a couple of quotes from the other recommendations in case we end up going the whole hog. @penfold Love the idea of getting solar+batteries to offset the electricity usage so will look into that.  Thanks, all.
    • Yes Sally, I've emailed him several times since Xmas. I don't contact Councillors frequently but when I've done so over the years, I've found them generally engaged and responsive. It's unprecedented to just be ignored and, regardless of the query I'm raising, that's worrying from the point of view of  our local democratic voice. Its a Councillors role to represent local people! A different thread on here made reference to a lack of response from one of our ward councillors and, since there are only two, I'm guessing it's the same one. I'm following up my own concern separately but I'm asking on here about whether others have had the same problem. I'd like to think it's a one-off but, increasingly, I suspect it's not. Hope that gives a bit more context!
