HOW I BROKE MAX CLIFFORD'S KNEE

Back in the early 80s I regularly played football with a bunch of journalists, most of whom like myself worked at Mirror Group Newspapers. Once a week we'd meet up and play seven-a-side near Kings Cross then adjourn to a boozer nearby and sink a few beers together before staggering back to the office. Max Clifford was one of those players as was Sir Nicholas Lloyd. One afternoon during a game Max was marking me tightly and as a cross came in we both went for the same ball. I shrugged him off easily and beat him in the air to score with a far post header. As he fell to the ground, Max landed awkwardly and broke his knee.

Just thought I put that out there. True story.

All true.

I was much younger than the rest of the journalists that played football then so I could run rings around most of them and scored frequently. I was quite a talented player as a young man even if I say so myself.

NB: I'm looking forward to (dreading) *Bob's* reply to this one. ;-)

    • I'm utterly baffled as to why anybody thinks this is newsworthy, let alone worth a front page. The economy has barely grown for 20 years and the housing crisis has been worsening for a similar time period. Note to any journalists on the forum: maybe focus your headlines on important issues.
